Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

Tropical Storm Alberto is expected to weaken to tropical depression strength on Tuesday as it accelerates northeastward through the western Atlantic Ocean. This system is expected to continue on a northeastward track through Wednesday and dissipate by Thursday. Meanwhile, a cold front pushing across the Eastern Valleys will reach the Eastern Seaboard with more unsettled weather activity. The front will stir up scattered showers and thunderstorms from portions of the Lower Great Lakes and Northeast southward into the Southeast and Central Gulf Coast states through the day. Areas along the Gulf Coast and across much of Florida and Texas will remain hot on Tuesday as daytime highs reach into the upper 80s and 90s.

To the west of this activity, a cold front will cross the Northwest, bringing rain showers with afternoon and evening thunderstorms to parts of the Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. This frontal system will merge with another disturbance dropping out of southern Canada as it progresses eastward. Expect thunderstorm activity to spread into the Northern Plains ahead of this system. Storms in this region may turn severe with very large hail and damaging wind gusts. Meanwhile, a stronger front from the Pacific will reach the Pacific Northwest with a cooler airmass and precipitation.

Elsewhere in the West, temperatures across the Desert Southwest will climb into the 100 to near 110 degree range on Tuesday.

Nowcast as of 11:25 am EDT on May 22, 2012
The short term forecast for Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Monroe, and Livingston counties. At 1125 am a line of showers, some heavy, extended from near Churchville in Monroe County, to Pavilion, Warsaw, then to near Wellsville. This line will show little movement through 130 PM. Some of the showers are expected to develop into thunderstorms with brief downpours that will produce localized poor drainage flooding. Other scattered activity is expected to develop during the early afternoon across other portions of the region.

* at 1235 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
nearly stationary area of showers and scattered thunderstorms
... extending from Churchville to Caledonia and continuing
southwest to Pavilion to just north of Warsaw. Rainfall rates up
three quarters of an inch per hour are possible.

Because the area of rain is expected to remain nearly stationary
through 2 PM EDT... localized flooding is possible on area roads and
in poor drainage areas.

... Safe boating week continues...

The following is a safe boating message from the National safe
boating Council and the National Weather Service.

The effects of alcohol can be even more hazardous on the water than
on land. Boating under the influence, or b u I, affects judgment,
vision, balance and coordination. These impairments can increase the
risk of being involved in a boating accident for both passengers and
boat operators. Alcohol is a contributing factor in about a third of
all recreational boating fatalities.

It is illegal to operate any boat or watercraft while under the
influence of alcohol or drugs in every state. Penalties can include
fines, suspension or revocation of your drivers license and even
jail time.

Every boater needs to understand the risks of boating under the
influence of alcohol or drugs. To learn more, visit the National
safe boating Council online, at www.Safeboatingcouncil.Org.

Check www.Weather.Gov or listen to NOAA Weather Radio all hazards
for the latest marine forecasts and warnings.
