Hi, Dad,

I see you got some Halloween wishes.

Hope they don't keep your blog from
loading. I really need to set up
a new entry for you but I don't know
if you remember how to log back on.

Saw no trick or treaters other than
the two girls next door. They just
came over to show us their costumes
for the church Halloween party. We
have never gotten more than a hand
full of them, anyway. I finally
quit buying candy and turning the
porch light on. No one has shown
up in years and it leaves me with
all that candy in the house. Too
much temptation!

Bet you'd enjoy that Mark Twain lecture
series that is starting on campus
this Friday. It would be nice if they
could televise it on the WC network or
tape it, for those that are interested
but can't attend.

Hi, Dad.

I sent "L" an email yesterday to see if
Nov 17th and 18th are suitable with her
for me to come up. She said 'Yes."

Once my leave is approved, I'll confirm.

I plan to leave here early Thursday morning,
on the 17th of this month. I will have to
get back on the road home immediately after
lunch on Sat, in order to get home before
dark. I'll need Sunday to wash clothes
and get things ready for work on Monday.

I'll be there about lunchtime Thurs, we'll
have all day Friday and then, Sat morning
thru lunch.

Hi, Dad.

Waiting on official confirmation. My
supervisor is scheduled to be off those
days, too, so we have to be sure that
there will be enough people in the unit
to cover the work. The wheels of
bureaucracy grind slowly.

Nothing much to report. Just busy here
at work.

Hi, Dad.

Happy Friday.

It was a bit wet this morning, coming in
to work. Dark, too. Guess that'll change
this weekend when we changed the time back.

I just found out that Wab's son lost his house
and everything inside to a fire this morning.
(Wab is 'whitewabit' here on Wunderground.
He has stopped by here to tell you hello before.)
Luckliy, no one was home but they lost their
dog, who was inside. We're trying to organize
something here to help his son out.

Looking foward to seeing you in a couple of
weeks. Still waiting on confirmation on my leave
request but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Happy Saturday, Dad.

It is sunny today but very windy and
chilly. I think it will start warming
up some beginning tomorrow. I like highs
in the upper 60's to low 70's and nothing
lower at night that the 40's. I could
live with temps like that all winter. I
hate when it gets freezing.

Sounds like they've got some good
stuff on the menu today.

Sausage dogs with peppers/onions
in the cafe for lunch. Or the
pork shanks, potato salad and fried
okra.

The dinner menu tonight sounds good,
too. I think I'd go for the beef tips,
fried mushrooms and grilled zucchini.

No visit to our cousin today. She had
the offer of a ride this morning to go
visit a friend in the hospital, so
asked me for a rain check on our usual
coffee and chat.

She said her son was roughing it out on
Goat Island last night with some friends
at a small cabin. She told me she was
worried about them being too cold. "M"
is a big boy and I'm sure he and his
friends were fine. She said there was
a stove or small heater out there.
I think they'd know enough to retreat to
"M's" place on Folly Beach, if they
couldn't handle the cold! I'm sure they
had a good time, cold or not.

Best get my next load of clothes in the
washer and take advantage of the sun and
wind.

Don't forget to put your clocks back, though
why you'd need to, I don't know. You're
retired!

I see that Andy Rooney died yesterday,
from complications after surgery.

Loved his commentary on '60 Minutes'.

He announced his retirement in Sept.

What game are you going to watch today?
The Tigers don't have one scheduled.
I just hope we get over our stumble with
GA Tech last weekend, when we meet Wake
Forest next week.

Hi, Dad.

I'm a little late getting online this morning.

My body is still on Daylight Savings time,
so woke up fairly early, according to the
clock.

I must have fumbled something, when turning
off the alarm before going out for the paper.
The next thing I knew, I had a deputy sheriff
at the front door. I couldn't hear the alarm
going off and, from where I sit in my chair,
I didn't notice the little red button flashing.

It has been a while since I've goofed like that,
so I guess I was overdue. I'm surprised it
doesn't happen more often; I'm never really
quite awake when I first get up.

Dispatch probably called the house, but it
would have been Hubby's phone and I don't even
hear it ring. They then called Hubby's brother,
who called him at work. (He's sometimes working
Sundays now, as Harris Teeter wants daily
deliveries). Hubby then called our next door
neighbors, and 'P' came over to check on me.

The deputy evidently didn't have anything
pressing after he came by the house. He sat
in his car up the street for almost an hour.
Hubby got home about the time the deputy left.

So, there was a little excitement here this a.m.

Days like this, I hate that alarm system. It's
nice to know that I'm secure but dealing with it
is a real pain.

Anyhoo, I read the paper and then watched 'CBS
Sunday Morning', as I knew they'd be doing a
tribute to Andy Rooney. They're doing another one
on the news tonight and again on '60 Minutes'
this evening. I"m going to miss his commentaries.
He could really hit the nail on the head.

Hi, Dad.

It's busy here today. Monday
always is. We have three days
worth of work from over the
weekend.

Plus, our training for that new
program starts today. That will
be one hour less each day that I
can devote to the incoming work.

Hope you have a nice day!

Hi, Dad.

Oh, joy. I was given a special project
this morning that has to be done ASAP.
I still haven't gotten yesterday's work
cleared out.

Still waiting on official confirmation of
my leave request. I'll probably have that
by the end of the week. I'm pretty sure
it will be approved; I just have to get it
locked in.

I see Joe Frazier passed. I'd heard a couple
of days ago that he was in hospice care in
Philadelphia or someplace in Pennsylvania.

I remember the 'Thrilla in Manila". I was
rooting for Joe. Actually, I rooted for
anyone fighting Ali. Hubby liked him; I
didn't.

Hi, Dad.

I finally got my special project finished
and out of the way about mid-morning. Of
course, all my other work has now piled up.

I should have it cleared out by Friday, 4:00.

I watched something on PBS last night
about the supersub the Japanese had built
right at the end of WWII. It was a double
hulled sub that could carry planes on the
deck in a waterproof hangar. Rather
interesting, as I don't recall reading any
thing about that and I do read a lot about
WWII. The last one was called I-400 or I-401.
It was Yamamoto's pet project but it kind of
lost favor after he died. They completed a
few of them but it wasn't in time to make
much difference in the outcome of the war.

I went to bed not too long after that went
off at 9:00 last night. There really wasn't
anything much on and I was nodding.

Hi, Dad.

Not much to report, other than being
extremely busy here at work.

Hi, Wab. Wasn't that an interesting
trip through WWII history? If I'd
ever run across that before, it wasn't
in detail and I've long forgotten it.

I watched an encore of the first two
episodes of "Vietnam" on The History
Channel last night, then watched last
night's episodes right after. I'll
watch the last two tonight. It is an
excellent overview of the war, through
home movies, archival footage, interviews
with people who were there. There were
quite the number of disturbing scenes and
I had some odd dreams last night after
watching 4 solid hours of it. It concludes
tonight, with the final two episodes.

Happy Veteran's Day, Dad.

I'm trying to talk Hubby into
going to Applebee's after I
get home from work. They're
offering a selection of free
dinners to all vets and active
duty service members. He just
has to carry something as
proof he was in the service.
Discharge, commendations, etc.
He could even carry a picture
of himself in uniform or in the
field.

We'll have to pay for drinks and
my meal but...

You can expect me to arrive next
Thursday around lunchtime. I'll
leave that morning as close to
8:00 as I can. You know how
slow I am when I first get up.

HI, Dad.

Just a quick breeze through,
as I need to get showered and
dressed to go over to our
cousin's for our little weekly
coffee and chat. Didn't go
last Sat, as she had things
planned.

We did get over to Applebee's
last night and had a nice
dinner. The place was packed
full of vets and active military,
as well as the usual Friday after
work crowd.

Hubby took his discharge papers,
as proof of service. Of course,
we had to pay for our drinks and
my meal

It is pretty cool out there this
morning. All my clothes in the
closet are all jumbled up, summer
things with winter things. I
need to reorganize it so that I
can put my hands on my winter stuff
without digging around.

Looking forward to seeing you
later this coming week.

Happy Sunday, Dad.

Go, Tigers! We're back,
after losing to GA two weeks
ago. That win against Wake
Forest yesterday was a bit
too close for comfort, though.

We've got NC State next weekend
and Carolina, Thanksgiving weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed!

It's a bit warmer today but
cloudy. I've just finished
up the rest of the laundry
and have it out on the line.

The forecast is for partly
cloudy, so I don't think it
will rain.

I got an email from Aunt 'C',
who told me that ya'll have
gotten a new car, due to the
old one having some major
repair issues. A Chevy this
time?

I'll need to check your
membership here, when I come up.
It may be due to be renewed. I
just had to renew mine. I think
yours is due in Jan but I'm not
sure.

I'm fixing bubble and squeak for
dinner today. I like to fix
something on Sunday that we can get
a couple of meals out of but I
didn't feel like spending a lot of
time in the kitchen doing it.
Bubble and squeak fits the bill.

Oh, and our cousin is doing pretty
good. She tries to stay as busy
as she can, though she has to
pace herself these days. She and
some friends played cards all Friday
afternoon and had a good time.

She was on the phone when I got there.
She said it had been ringing off the
hook, with people calling to check up
on her. I don't know how many people
call her every day but it is a lot.
She has a lot of support, which is good.

Hi, Dad.

Just a quick hello, as I'm very busy here
at work today. I've only got 3 days to
clear out all the stuff left from last
week and everything that came in over the
weekend. Then there's tomorrow and Wed.'s
work.

Hope your Monday is more laid back than mine.

Hi, Dad.

My work is piling up and my
time is running out. I've
got to really put my nose to
the grindstone today and
tomorrow. No overtime allowed,
either.

We've got a staff meeting which
will blow an hour and a half out
of my schedule.

Looking forward to seeing you
Thursday around 11:30 or 12:00 or
a little after. About the usual
time, I suppose.

I'll stop in O'burg at Walmart for
a pit stop and gas.

Hi, Dad.

Just a quick check in. I am really running late
taking my lunch. We had our staff meeting this
morning and it has me all messed up, workwise.

The best I can hope for is to get the worst of it
out and gone and the rest will have to wait until
Monday.

Will see you around lunchtime tomorrow!

Morning, Dad.

I logged on real quick to check the
weather. I may run into some rain
between here and North or
Pelion. It just depends on how fast
that stuff moves east as I'm driving
west. I don't think it will be bad,
though.

Gotta get finished up here at the
house, so I can get on the road.

See you soon!

Hi, it's me.

Kinda late checking in. Got here shortly after 12, went to pick up our lunch and I've been helping Dad with some stuff on his computer. It locked up and we ahd to check plugs, wires, do a disk cleanup, etc, etc. Finally got things fixed.

My aunt and uncle are coming over shortly and we're having Beef Wellington dinners delivered to the house from the campus dining hall. YUM...

Hi Big Bug and Little Bug!
Glad you had a decent drive up.
It seems to have been the day for
computer issues! I spent a couple of
hours helping my neighbour get his laptop
up and running again after he "updated something"!
His words!!
Enjoy your Beef Wellington:))

Glad you arrived safely, and have the computer feeling spiffy again.

I'm going to have to go look up Beef Wellington. I can't remember what it is! If you're saying YUM, it must be good. Enjoy the evening.

Hallo and good morning to everybody!

I always nod out early the day I drive up. Dad
went on to bed and I was going to watch TV for a while. I woke up in the recliner/rocker about 10:00.

I threw in the towel and went to bed.

Woke up about 6:00, got the paper, started the coffee.

The drive up was not too bad. Patches of blue sky, sun and then clouded back over with misty rain. I
never did see any 'rain' rain. Thank heavens. I can deal with mist or light rain; it's those heavy
downpours that I hate driving in.

Normally here in the South, we don't get much fall colour, unless to get up into the Smokies. This year, for whatever reason, it is pretty darn gorgeous. Still predominantly green from all the pines but there's maroon, burgundy, golds and the occasional splash of really red or bright yellow. Maybe being wet and overcast provided more contrast than usual but even my aunt agreed that the colour this year was more than usual.

Dinner last night was very good: Beef Wellington, grilled asparagus, baked potato and a spinach, mandarin orange, almond, feta cheese salad with a raspberry dressing. That was from their 'Fine Dining' menu, which costs extra from the regular dinner menu and must be specially ordered. We had it delivered to the house.

We all enjoyed it and my aunt brought over homemade cookies for us to nibble on for dessert.

Ylee, the dining hall here is excellent for a place that is cooking in bulk. They even have a chef. To see their weekly menu, click on the word 'Dining' underneath that picture of the two couples:
Link

NOthing much on the agenda today. I am going to ride over to my aunt/uncle's house around midafternoon, as they want to show me their garden. If Dad has anything he needs me to do, I'll take care of it. The main yard work is handled by the groundskeepers but potted plants may need watering and leaves swept from the deck, drive and front walk. I swept the front walk yesterday but the leaves keep falling!

Time for more coffee.

Good day Bug.
Hey have a great visit with Dad.
Autum is over on the Nothern Edge of the prairie.
I cleaned off the Queen's car for her today. She insisted thar I didn't loose my licence to operate the brush and scraper along with my drivers license. :)
Have a great day
