Hi, folks!

No Wine Workshop again, tonight. More info below….

It’s very late to get this out. I ended up sleeping very late, after having a bout of nightmares for some darned reason. I guess I’m going to have to check the wardings on the house again.

I’ve been watching a set of crows having fun with a stale sandwich. Tempus pressed it down on the raccoon discourager so they couldn’t just grab and fly. One of them hung himself like a woodpecker on the side of the railing and two were coming at it from the endes. They yanked and pulled and one nabbed the other right on the leg at which point the one on the far side of the rail got a solid grip on the sandwich long enough to yank it loose. It flipped up and over his head and they all followed it to the ground where they and about 5 others began yanking it back and forth. One would stand on it, then another would yank it out from under. Finally one bird on the left got hold of the top slice and one on the right got the bottom and they yanked the slices apart and took off over the roof of the house next door.

There’s a hummingbird drinking at that feeder and he licks his beak all over after every sip. It’s almost too fast to see, just a flickering.

Tempus has finally gotten the seed feeder cleaned out. It was full of all kinds of goo that just completely gummed it up, so it’s taken some soaking and working to get it clean enough to use. While I was trying to get my brain in gear I watched all the usual little birds all over it.

I just showed Tempus a picture of a boat house on Tahkenitch Lake, well south of us, that has decided it prefers to be a house boat. It seems to have torn loose in the last storm and is floating in the middle of the lake, quite visible from 101. There’s a picture here: http://www.wunderground.com/wximage/hannabanana/31 91?gallery=VIPPICT

Yesterday was a steady day of working on small tasks. We finally got price tags printed for a lot of the new hanging things, (like the dreamcatchers) and also on some clothing that’s new to us. There’s a really interesting cape and hat set in black with skulls, lined in blue with owls, jeweled with large leaves and a matching hat. There’s a skirt/petticoat set in a deep red shirred fabric. We also just got in a Museum Replicas Renaissance gown in black & red, a couple of vintage Gunne Sax dresses and a cute short frock in cream and blue with lace. I’m trying to get good tags on all of the clothing and I will tell you about some of the pieces as the tags go on. One that I missed was a soft blue chiffon tunic and pants with a beaded neckline that is making me drool. There’s a lot more of me than it, though, or I’d be wearing it!

I dug out some of the framed pictures and posters that we had up at the old shop. Tempus has started working out where to hang them and a few (the Hamsa!) are already up.

He’s cooking bacon and the house smells wonderful. I’m finally at the bottom of my first cup of coffee and starting to wake up.

A bunch more of the things that got bagged the other day are starting to go up on the board. We have a bunch of quartz points and tiny clusters plus some odds and ends of sunstones, citrine, amethyst and so on. I also got another set of hyssop put together and started on some foxglove, but that’s going to take some help to get it down from the drying rack without scattering it all over the floor. I sorted the stray bits (stems and rose petals, mostly) out of a bag of dried larkspur that’s next on the list to be bagged.

Eventually I curled up in back for a nap and when I woke, got the classroom cleaned up and started finding all the class materials. We decided to try to get some raw footage from the class time. I haven’t gotten it from the camera to computer, yet, so I’m not sure on the volume or how the camera placement worked.

Oooooh, my! I just got handed a plate of bacon, hard-boiled eggs and some of Tempus’ home-made waffles. I’m officially distracted!

….

Wow… he’s a *good* cook and he makes excellent waffles! We’ve been talking over our meal about some of the left over chores at the shop, trying to figure a game plan for making some more space in the back….

So, the 101 class went well. We have 4 students this time and we’re running from 6-9pm, so the session shouldn’t take as long.

Tempus and I are heading to the shop as soon as this is out. We’re going to be taking pictures of some stock and seeing if I can get a few pictures of my blackwork embroidery to boot. We’ll have the door open while we’re there although we’re not planning on putting the flags and such out….maybe the book barrow….

The wines are still under pressure and bubbling. We have only 3 carboys, so until they’re done, the Wine Workshop is still on hold. I’m going to take it off of the calendar and we’ll re-start when someone has a driving interest or when the wines are ready to rack and bottle. Any of you folks who said you were interested, want to change the time?

The shop is closed today, but we’ll be there for a while this afternoon taking pictures. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

The evening Wicca 101 class begins tonight.

I’m still sleepy and yawning, although I woke before the alarm clock. It was already getting light, then. It’s dim and still and there’s a hummingbird perched on the feeder.

On Saturday the Herbs workshop worked on cutting up the rosemary branch that we’re trying to dry. That’s one from the bush that thrashed itself apart during the biggest of the storms. It finally got finished yesterday afternoon. Sewing Workshop ended up with just two of us again, continuing the same projects, but it’s fun to sit and talk while we make progress.

I went over to Delta One Lapidary for a few minutes to visit with Jerry and get his help on identifying some crystals that were just beyond me. He has a little shop across from the PO in Waldport and sells lapidary supplies.

We didn’t have any of the Job Corps bunch on Sunday again. I’m not quite sure what’s going on with that.

Rowan and Marius were there all day yesterday. Rowan and I worked on the library….well, she worked and I kibitzed… and I got other things done. I packed some herbs, made several pairs of earrings, sorted out another bag of crystals, added more of the stuff from World Tree to the inventory and so on. We’re getting close to the end of that new stock, so the next step is going be starting to get pictures of things. Tempus and Marius ended up going into Newport to do some shopping yesterday. It’s been a quiet weekend, but a lot got done!

Tempus has a loaf of bread started and I can smell coffee. We’re hoping to get the last big section of the shop inventory finished today.

The evening Wicca 101 class will begin tonight at 6pm. There’s enough room for more people. You don’t need to sign up, just show up. The class fee is $45 for the printed handout, or $15 if you bring a flash drive. That covers the cost of the class materials with a little over that goes into the fund for folks who can’t afford it.

The shop opens at 11am and we’ll be there through class time. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Herbs Workshop at 11am and Sewing Workshop at 3pm.

That was the most incredible sunrise! I’ve ben sitting and watching for most of an ½ hour and I’m still having trouble tearing myself away from the window. It began with a layer of smoky blue above a silvery glow, then started to blush until the whole eastern sky was brilliant red and the little rolls and dots of cloud below the thick smoky layer turned to deep rose pink. Quickly enough to see the change the red went to orange, then gold, while the pink got brighter and paler. Small pools of blue, right on top on the hills showed and then a clear green streak and then the whole thing vanished into an ordinary morning. Wow…..

It’s not so cold this morning, nearly 40F. The frost vanished as soon as the sun hit it, maybe even before. It’s going back and forth between thin sunshine and grey, but gradually brightening. Hummingbirds are all over, but something dumped the seed tray and the birds that are showing up are out of sight from the desk. Tempus has been soaking the birdfeeder because the stuff was all glued together in the bottom, but he said he finally got the last of it unstuck this morning and the feeder is drying.

We got a lot done yesterday. First thing after getting the shop open was to get the gargoyle display fixed and it looks pretty good. I need to fish the rainbow flags out and re-set them though. I hit one and the whole bundle flipped out of the container!

Tempus got the new shelf with the corkboard up and I started moving the pottery into it, getting that finished during the afternoon. He went out and ran a few errands, coming back up to the house to make a bread recipe in the middle of that.

The first thing that went up on that corkboard was a flyer about the Permaculture Garden in the Waldport Community Garden. The lady who is running that is going to be thinking about setting up some classes in the various techniques to run during our monthly Psychic Fairs that are supposed to begin in March. I don’t have any details, at all, but she’s interested in using the shop as a venue, so I’ll keep you posted as things firm up.

I went on to unpacking and inventorying more of the stuff from World Tree. There were a few earrings (including an antique Chinese turquoise pair) and a handful of bracelets in a box of pendulums. Most of the pendulums went up on the rack. There’s a really nice small jasper one, an amethyst, one that is mostly hearts, even the chain, an amber (although it’s really low quality amber…so it’s affordable… and pretty!) and a small turquoise along with several beaded ones. One not-so-nice discovery, though, was that one of the pendulums that we’ve had for a while, had the main crystal part of it pulled off. The “tail” was hanging up, still, but the jump ring and all was gone and the remaining chain is damaged. It looks as though someone decided to yank the crystal off of the pendulum string. Now, I can understand wanting the pendulum or just the crystal, but that style of pendulum is just on a clip. Why destroy the whole thing? Because in yanking the crystal off, the clip and the mounting into the crystal would have been damaged, too…. I really don’t understand theft in any case, but to damage what you’re stealing it pretty dumb, I think.

After that I got into some crystals and clusters, some of which are already set out, including one odd quartz cluster that looks like the growth habit of coral, but most need headers. I’ve gotten them bagged and I’m going to get into making the headers today.

I had printed headers for some of the newer herbs and Tempus got most of them set up. We’ll be trying to get those onto the board this morning. There’s hibiscus flower, lemon grass powder and marshmallow root. We’re replacing some of the yarrow flower, too.

Herbs this morning is going to be dealing with the rosemary “tree” that’s been inhabiting the one end of the classroom. During the early afternoon we’re going to continue with inventory (I’m starting to see the bottom of the list!!!!) and then Sewing Workshop is a “bring your own project” event. If things work out right and we keep some sunshine into the afternoon, I might even get a chance to actually get some pictures for the embroidery book that I’m working on.

Oh, it’s *definitely* going on spring! There are several Varied Thrushes foraging in the lawn and the first one I saw was up in the alder. The Stellar Jays have been around, first looking for the feeder and then the seed tray. The curious way they searched to find the seed that’s spilled onto the floor of the porch made me laugh.

The shop opens at 11ams. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Esbat tonight.

It was 32F when I got up, clear and cold and lovely stars, cold enough I crawled back in and fell asleep. Then when I actually got up it was clear and past sunrise with beautifully golden sky to the southeast. When the sun actually lifted over the mountains it was squarely in that tree clump and the light was on the bookcase for an ½ hour, hardly hitting the edge of the altar, even now. The frost is thick on the grass and the next door roof. A hummingbird is sipping from the feeder, glowing in the sunlight. A bright red tomato, so old that even the crows have left it alone, is perched on the railing, brilliantly red against the green of pine.

We were late getting to the shop yesterday, but not by a lot. We got the shop open and Tempus started in on the “making loud noises” part. He was able to work out front which was a relief to my ears. He got my blocks cut and then set them up to dry out, since they were damp from being outside. I’ll be re-doing that display this morning. He got the back on the shelf unit, gave it a bit to dry and then started applying the cork to it. It’s still lying in the aisle with weights on it, but we should be able to start filling it today.

I worked on checking in more of the new stock, then on filling a custom order, then did some website updates, then realized just how far I’m behind on getting pictures of jewelry done, so did some, sent ‘em off and then got back to work on the inventory.

About then people started showing up for the Wicca 103 class. We have 3 in this class and we might have a 4th if I can get her caught up after her surgery. It went well, although right at the beginning I felt like I was having to pick up the scattered pieces of my mind from all over the shop….

When we left the shop Orion was directly overhead and Jupiter was far enough off to the west that I was thinking, “Venus and the moon are close together tonight. Where’s the moon?” ….and then realized I was seeing Jupiter and it was well after 9pm… The drive home was immensely foggy and here all the frost this morning! Tempus and I didn’t do much last night other than crawl into bed and go thud….

Today I have to set up the gargoyles display and then work on the pottery. Next is going to be getting some more pictures while the sunshine is bright, then back to inventory and I’m really hoping for a nap before esbat.

Hmm… the seed feeder still isn’t out. I wonder if he forgot….

The shop opens at 11am, we’ll be there through esbat, but we’ll close once that starts. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Wicca 103 at 5pm tonight!

I got up way later than I should have, but we had a long day yesterday. The sun was already up and peeking over the mountains…and in the tree clump! It’s come back that far from the south!

With the nasty weather the bird feeder hasn’t gone out as regularly as it was. There just aren’t any birds out there, and I miss them. I don’t know if the hummingbird feeder is empty or what, but I’m only seen one hummingbird. Hmm… maybe they’re all sleeping late, too.

It’s supposed to be fairly clear tonight and tomorrow, which means cold. They’re talking 34F tonight, so the greenhouse tent has to go back up or my lettuce will not make it. I wonder if I’ll get a few minutes out there, to put in some peas….

Rowan got to the house yesterday morning while I was still blinking and trying to get my eyes all the way open. She got the keys and went down to the shop to work on the library. After Tempus and I got ourselves together we headed down there, too, and got back to work on checking in the new stock. During a long afternoon and evening we managed to get through all the big stuff, but there’s still a bunch of fabrics, a lot of jewelry and a box which is mostly shells, but with some crystals of various types. We’ve managed to get all the big pieces moved, but all day yesterday we tripped over things. It was frustrating, knocking things over and wading through packing materials, but we got it done. Tempus even got most of the boxes flattened back out.

We’ve changed some things around. All year the divination case was in the far corner of the shop, farthest from the door. That has changed. We’ve turned the one round table into an island of prints, cards, garden stones and now divination products. There’s a spinner of rune earrings on the divination case and a 2nd card rack will eventually land in that vicinity once I get some of the other things put together.

Where the divination case was is mostly miscellaneous stuff at the moment. I’ve got the boxes that still needed to be inventoried underneath

We’re finally, today, starting on the new bulletin board. Tempus is gathering up supplies. There may be some loud noises from the shop during the day as he gets some pieces cut. He’s also going to cut some pieces of board for me to use in creating some stepped displays, things that are less boring and more visible than pieces group on a flat surface. I’m hoping we’re going to be doing some lighting work, too, but I don’t know how far we’re going to get. …and we’re *still* trying to finish the inventory!

Wicca 101 starts at 5pm. This looks like a smaller class than what I had hoped for, despite our grouping several sessions of people together. Well, it’s a fun class, anyway. The formal title of the class is Deconstructing and Reconstructing Magick. We start with ritual tools and go on from there, through the Cornerstones of Power, the Hermetic Laws and so on. It’s a fun class.

Tempus is outside dumping the bird feeder. The seed was wet and had soured, so he’s putting all that’s in the feeder into a pan and will re-fill it. It looks like he might have to wash it out, too.

The shop is supposed to be closed on Tuesday/Wednesday, but we’ll be there for several hours during the day. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

I’m up way early, not unexpected after starting yesterday so late. That was an odd day. We got up so late and it was even later when I posted the newsletter and the day just went that way. It seemed that I never woke up and then once I did, I couldn’t work, anyway.

It’s still dark, but only barely at just past 6:30am. I’m really starting to notice that the days are getting longer. Yesterday I said something about, “It can’t be past 3!” when it was almost 5pm…. The days are getting longer by almost 2 ½ minutes, now, each day.

Tempus made what he’s been calling, “brelinner”, that we didn’t finish eating until about 3:30pm! We curled up and watched the last segment of Elizabeth R, then he went out to run some errands. We never did get to the shop. I wrote for a while in the evening, but stopped when I couldn’t see well enough to edit and read, instead. I’m working my way through several books on various embroidery techniques. I made a pig of myself on some of his wonderful bread and I ended up making some cookies last night, trying a recipe…that didn’t work. I don’t know where the fad for putting a ton of salt in or on cookies came from. A little is great, but not sweet stuff as salty as chips… most of the batch hit the bird food bucket.

Today we have to be at the shop at some point. We’ve *got* to make some headway on the stock from World Tree. No, looking at the weather, there’s no Herbs Outdoors today. It’d be fun to go down into the park to hunt volunteer cedar and resins, but we just might drown….

The shop is supposed to be closed on Tuesday/Wednesday, but we’ll be there for several hours during the day. We’re on regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

It’s nearly noon. Tempus and I just dragged ourselves out of bed. The wind is blowing in the low 20 and has gusted up to 45mph up here and it’s raining cats and dogs, but it’s beautiful out there…as long as I’m in *here*! There’ve been constant hummingbirds on the feeder, despite its wild dancing in the wind. The wind chime is clonking and a drip bucket that I set up again (the wind keeps knocking it over) makes a tinkling sound. The porch roof drips when it’s not streaming and sheets of rain blow across the yard. I’m looking at fat buds on the clematis, red alder catkins against a lichen-silvered trunk and the various greens of pines, cedars and spruce…and I’m sleepy. The temperature is around 50 here and a little over that downtown.

Yesterday was *very* long! We got to the shop around 9am and Tempus ran around town while I was doing some cleaning in the back. We were open before 10am and he headed out to Eugene around 10:30 after we set up to get some stock things to Elan that she needed from us. The sun was shining and it was a truly gorgeous day, as various tourists were telling me who had been out on the beaches or hiking in the woods. Apparently there were some spectacular piles of sea foam at Bob’s Creek wayside and a *lot* of wood down in the parks. Not so much trees as branches, but almost impassable amounts on the hiking trails.

I started with computer stuff, then got back into inventory, doing small stuff like the spell candles and herb backstock. Boy howdy, I did *not* realize I had sold *that* many spell candles over the summer! It’s about 4 times what I used to sell up at the old shop location. I figured that I had plenty left in the backstock drawer and I’m actually out of some colors. So that went onto the order sheets.

Willow came in and we worked on a couple of her sewing projects…I have to get the cutting board and leather out for one of her projects…and we figured out how to re-build a dress so that it actually fits, although we didn’t have the materials to start. After that she started packing herbs and I had a couple of counseling folks in and then all kinds of customers and the phone kept ringing. I was run off my feet! Finally around our usual closing time it settled down again. I nuked myself some supper and put my feet up for a bit.

We were supposed to start Wicca 101 last night, but the only folks that made it were a couple where she’s been having problems with an ear infection and she was so dizzy from the medications that we decided to re-start next week. So, where were the rest of you?

From then until Tempus got in at 8pm, I made earrings and worked on a couple of beading projects. I’m having fun with some beads that are shaped like various drinks: a mug of beer, strawberry daiquiri, that kind of thing! The racks are filling up again. I also printed some things that still need to be laminated.

Once he got there we started unloading/inventorying/stocking. We had two boxes of books to add to inventory (along with things that haven’t been unpacked…lots of that). There’s a good condition copy of Beyond Pain which has a CD with it. Some of Dorothy Morrison’s books are there, a copy of Pictorial Key to the Tarot (a classic that we’ve been out of for a while), several copies of Celestine Prophecy and a couple of feet of books in the “general” category. There’s a whole rack of rune earrings, now, too.

We worked on that until about 10pm and then I started making mistakes. Finally, when I managed to sort a whole column away from the rest of the file (so we’ve got to go back and check whose was which ) we gave up and headed home. I dropped into bed and I have no idea when Tempus came in.

During the night I drowsed off to the sound of rain on the skylight, but would be wakened by bumps and rattles, some of which I know, now that I’m awake, was the water rattling in the downspout. It has finally occurred to me, now that I’m awake, that the air purifier is off from the power outage and *that’s* why I was hearing all the rest!

I tried to get myself up at the normal time. Honestly, I *did* try, but my eyes still weren’t focusing after an ½ hour, so I gave up and crawled back in next to my warm sweetie. I do mean sweet, too. He lets me put my cold feet on him and even reaches out with his own to get me warmed back up. 

We’re trying to get ourselves put together enough to head for the shop, but Tempus has a bread loaf going and it’s nearly 1pm. I don’t know….We haven’t even eaten breakfast yet and it’s *really* nasty-looking out there! …and two cups of coffee haven’t even *touched* my drowsiness…

The shop is supposed to be closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Space Weather News for Jan. 23, 2012 - http://spaceweather.com
INCOMING CME: Big sunspot 1402 erupted on Jan. 23rd, producing a strong M9-class solar flare and a fast-moving coronal mass ejection (CME). Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say the CME should reach Earth on Jan. 24th at 14:18 UT (+/- 7 hr) and Mars a little more than a day later. Strong geomagnetic storms are possible when the cloud reaches Earth. Our magnetic field is still reverberating from a CME impact on Jan. 22nd, so another blow could spark impressive auroras at high latitudes. Sky watchers in northern Europe, Canada, Alaska, and northern-tier US states such as the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin should be alert for Northern Lights.

The other two are Procyon, about two fist-widths at arm's length lower left of Betelgeuse, and bright Sirius, a similar distance below Betelgeuse.
By 9 p.m. the Big Dipper is already standing vertically on its handle, well up in the northeast — an early sign of the approach of spring.

Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 evening class begins at 6pm.

There’s frost on the house roof next door. It’s down near 30 by the porch thermometer. It’s not clear, but not particularly cloudy, either. There’s a lot of fog. Relatively warm ground, cold air, lotsa water… we have fog.

The weather got interesting yesterday afternoon again. We got there around 9:30 and started in working, mostly cleaning at that point. No one was there for 101 so I put those things away and did a bunch of setting up of things for the week. Tempus was really sleepy since he had stayed up late studying, so I told him to go take a nap in back.

With only a flicker or two of warning the power went down somewhere around 11:30 and was out until nearly 2. Tempus went out to see what he could see, since that woke him. All of downtown was out, except for Ray’s and the hardware store. All of our neighborhood was down, too. He drove past the substation and they were checking wires and so on. We’re not sure even yet what caused it.

So, while the power was down I worked on my beading area. I’ve been neglecting the table and putting things away, and that actually took me most of that block of time!

When the power came back on, we went back to inventory and I ended up inventorying some things that I found clearing up the beading table area.

Late in the afternoon Willow came in and we were working on a bunch of stuff, but mostly talking.

One of the things that got sorted out yesterday was how to get the rest of the stock from the shop in Eugene. The weather looks the best for today out of the whole week, so Tempus is heading over there today, leaving around 9am, but he’s going by himself since I have class in the evening. He’s all ready to go, but has to wait for the PO to open, so I’ll be at the shop *very* early!

Wicca 101, new session, starts tonight! Class cost is $45 for the full printed handout or $15 if you can bring your own flash drive. That’s one fee per individual, couple, family or household. IOW, the fee is *only* for the printing, with a little left over that goes into the scholarship fund.

The shop opens at 11am, but I’ll be there earlier. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY: Earth's magnetic field is reverberating from a CME impact during the early hours of Jan. 22nd. The hit compressed Earth's magnetic field, briefly exposing some geosynchronous satellites to solar wind plasma, and disturbed the ionization structure of Earth's upper atmosphere. As night falls on Jan. 22nd, Arctic sky watchers are reporting bright auroras in response to a polar geomagnetic storm (Kp=5). Please check http://spaceweather.com for images and updates.

Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 at 10am. Others classes depend on who shows up.

It’s grey, dripping and windy. It’s chillier than it’s been for several days. The porch thermometer is reading just below 40F, although the computer says 44F.

Yesterday stayed sunny and drippy by turns, with a fair amount of sun during the early afternoon, but the weather closing back in later. Yes, that ceiling tile fell in. Tempus got it cleaned up and out and took down the tarp. Now we have to look at what comes through today….

Herbs worked on prepping and storing dried herbs. Sewing workshop has just the two of us. I did up another pillow, one that I’m making for Amor, zebra print this time, and then worked on my blackwork embroidery, the stuff that’s on the small frame. Mary had a small circular knitting needle project.

We don’t know if there are going to be any students today. If there are, then the usual schedule will apply, but otherwise we’ll be working on inventory.

The shop opens at 11am, but I’m hoping to have been there before now (9am) so I’m going to get this out and skedaddle. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Herbs Workshop at 11. Sewing Workshop at 3pm.

The sky is a blank white, but with an odd peach tint. It’s absolutely still outside. After all the wild weather it actually seems strange. There’s a hummingbird on that feeder. It’s peaceful and quiet.

Yesterday was a long day. We got out of the house early to find that one of our rosemary bushes had partly shredded in the blast. It’s the one by the south steps that’s been struggling for a couple of years. It may survive, but we have 3 large (think 6 feet plus) branches from it drying at the shop. The sticks are going to make some interesting wands. We ran past Heather’s place and from what we could see from the road everything’s fine up there, just small stuff down. That monkey puzzle tree in their yard is incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one so large! There was a lot of small stuff on the roadways, but all the big stuff had been cut up. The ocean and bay were messy-looking, the ocean with a lot of the dirty-looking diatom foam and the bay full of silt, café au lait color.

We got the shop open close to on time. The early part of the day was spent with checking with people to make sure everyone’s ok…and they are. Gradually things are getting back to normal but everyone was worried about another “blast” last night, that didn’t materialize

Now that I wrote the first paragraphs, here come the rain and wind again. It got dark quickly…inside of a couple of minutes, and now it’s pouring and blowing rain. Go figure! The temperature dropped from 47 to 43, too.

We had a number of people in during the day, folks who were out and about. Everyone was talking about the storm and power outages. There were places in Waldport that had gone out, although we only flickered up here. Yachats was out for quite a while, and up rt. 34, they were out for most of two days. We were told a story about some of the power company people who had to wade out into waist deep water in chest-high rubber clothing to get some live power lines taken care of. Eeeee….. They’re brave!

Tempus is outside putting up the bird feeder and taking out some potato peels and a hard-boiled egg that froze in the shop fridge. There’s a hummingbird wanting to get onto the feeder and flying around looking at him, now he’s landed on the feeder…about a foot away…Tempus moved and the bird took off…but he’s right back. Wow! ….and just sat on the feeder while Tempus walked right under him. ….Here come the crows! …and a towhee.

We worked right through, first tidying up…although the tarp is still over the books. We’re not sure what we’ll find this morning, again. Then I got 2011’s papers out of the current file drawer, sorted things and put a lot in the recycling. Pretty much all of the rest of the day was spent on sorting out the Children’s Magick section. It looks pretty good and all but the sock animals are inventoried. We’ve got a shelf up that makes the books and CD’s more visible.

We’re gradually getting the games over to the new corner table. …and we have a marvelous Tablero board for sale along with the backgammon and Morris sets. When I manage to get the Tablero set completely together, the price is going to go up. I’m going to try to get some pictures together of some of the newer stuff today, going through Paul’s prints to get an inventory done.

Herbs Workshop at 11 is going to concentrate o prepping and storing dried herbs. Sewing Workshop is at 3pm.

The shop opens at 11am. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

It’s still very dark. The wind is down to something more reasonable, but we’re under a warning again from 2pm to 4am: 45-75mph this time. They’ve closed a lot of the schools, including Lincoln County. That’s because of flooding, but also because the highs are trying to migrate to the lows again. Landslides *all* over the place! There’s a chunk out of Highway north of the Newport airport and there was a picture online of a spot near Gold Beach where a whole hillside is sitting on the roadway. The flooding in Tidewater has crested, but they’re starting to worry again about this next rainstorm. Winter in Oregon…..

Trash cans were down all over yesterday morning. There were bits of wood down, small branches and such, and you could see where larger stuff had been cut up. We got the shop open and settled in to work. Tempus got one of the new shelf units into the space where we’ve had the CD rack and then I put the CD’s into it. It’s nice to actually have some room on the shelves! I worked on inventory for most of the day and Tempus set up orders to go out. Late in the day Rowan showed up and while we were talking she looked up at the ceiling and we all started scrambling. One of the tiles was bulging and looked about to drop! It was completely soaked with water. We got the water to drain, but the tile was still trying to break! ….so we got out a tarp and tarped the area, so that if it came down overnight…well, let it! We’re honestly expecting it to be down in the middle of the tarp this morning. The books, the pottery, the CD’s are all protected. There were a dozen other leaks in the ceiling, but not anything else like that. We got several items re-stocked on the wall and went home. We spent a quiet evening, watching another episode of Elizabeth R over baked potatoes, ham and salad. I just wish I hadn’t gotten tangled up in a translation project until fairly late and *then* I picked up my current research book (Salem Possessed) and went to sleep far too late.

It’s finally getting light and you can see how windy it is, but things are looking way more normal up here. I wonder what we’ll find when we get to the shop? …and we’re going to stop by Heather’s to check on their property since they haven’t moved up there, still.

I didn’t get to Paul’s prints, so that’s today’s problem… that and inventory….

The shop opens at 11am. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

We’re supposed to start Wicca 103 at 5pm this evening, but there’s been a request to put it off for a week because of the weather. …OK, we’re going to start *next* Thursday!

…and I had forgotten about the Crone’s Tea. That’s getting put off, too.

The wind is still running around 25 and gusting up into the 40’s. Whee! It looked foggy when I first came out here. That’s how much water is coming down. The eaves aren’t getting a chance to drip. The wind just takes the water and flings it, but without the wind they stream.

Tempus put the birdfeeder out and grabbed the hummingbird feeder. His hair was floating all around him and then whipping around. It’s the kind of thing that I call “Medusa on a bad snake day”.

It’s warm, the porch thermometer is at 50. It’s definitely picked up from yesterday afternoon, but not quite as heavy duty as yesterday morning. It’s flooding that folks are worrying about… that and keeping the trash cans for heading for outer Mongolia. Today is trash day and it *is* a concern.

Yesterday was just steady work. I spent the earlier part of the day doing paperwork, some of it putting files to bed for last year, ready for Tempus to do our taxes. A big part was sorting out a file of Paul Rucker’s art prints that had never gotten properly reconciled since I got them because the file kept getting screwed up. I went back to the original files and sorted that so I can count ‘em today and have a good basis for saying what we have sold and what we haven’t. Some of it was working on the new calendar, but I usually set that up on the house computer and my wrists really complained about using the laptop. They’re still at it. I’m getting a burning sensation on the outside of my left arm down near the wrist. I think I’d better go make a poultice for it.

All day I watched the fury of the storm and the nonchalance of the birds about it, even when they were blowing right by the feeder, they’d loop around and try again. We did have a lot of ‘em up in the clematis and on the porch support above the window and they love the grass rakes in the tool rack. I had quite a lot of them eyeing me during the day. I sat ….

Wow! The house just shook and boomed. Suddenly the wind picked back up to 45pmh and a gust went to 65! The wind is the interesting thing. Mostly it whooshes and roars, but a lot of the time I hear rumbles and growls and then there’s a basso profundo thrum and everything shakes….

…as I was saying, I sat very still and they were less than 2 feet away. I could watch them cleaning their toes and stropping their beaks and hear them talking to one another very clearly.

By mid-afternoon it had calmed down a lot, but the wind kept going. I spent the afternoon, into the evening, cleaning/organizing in the kitchen. I have a *lot* more to do, but about ½ the mess is back where it’s supposed to be. I have some labels to put on the storage shelves this morning and then we’re down to picking up and wiping down things that actually belong. One more pot… I went out and got it and put it into the sink so it’ll get cleaned… anyway, during that process I made an oriental chicken noodle soup that turned out pretty tasty, although I just realized I forgot the water chestnuts…well, darn… I had ‘em ready and stuck ‘em into the fridge and forgot. I made some mini-pies, savory, not sweet, with chicken, spring onion, cream cheese and blue cheese. They were yummy hot and we have some for lunch today. Tempus cleaned the fridge out and then strained a ham broth that I made and put by for the next bean soup. I need to ask him if that got to the freezer.

He just put out the refilled hummingbird feeder.

I’m grinning to myself. The PIPA and SOPA protests got some attention, anyway. Obama says he’ll dump ‘em. We crashed a bunch of the senators’ websites complaining yesterday. Maybe that will make ‘em pay attention.

We never lost power, but we had a lot of flickering and one brown-down that popped several of the circuit breakers on the bathroom wall. We’ve got special re-settable outlets there for things like hair-dryers that take a lot of power. All we have *on* those outlets are nightlights, though.

Tempus worked on day on his classes, although the format had to get re-set. The regular lecture/reading youtubes weren’t working.

The poultice *is* working, though. My forearm is lying on it when I’m not typing.

Late in the evening I got a few licks in on finishing up with the ornaments boxes and I was reading some local stuff. There are a lot of trees down, although there was good hope that they’d be cleaned up by this morning. Folks had to use chainsaws to get into their driveways last night. A satellite dish or something from up the ridge flew over the Post Office and dropped into the bank parking lot on the other side. All the roads are open again except 126, but watch out for water on the road! A car got swept away in the Eugene area and a child is dead and an adult missing…. That’s why they say not to drive into water and not to drive too close to the rivers. I’m sorry for their family.

Well, we decided to postpone the start of the 103 class. Folks are worried about driving. Crones’ Tea postponed until next month, as well. Don’t forget that the evening Wicca 101 class begins on Monday!

Today’s work is going to be inventory. Tempus hasn’t made up his mind whether he’s going to work up here to at the shop, but he’ll help me open for the day, either way.

He just told me that the birds on the wildly rocking feeder are a “bunch of swingers”!

The shop opens at 11am. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

It’s wet and windy this morning. It finally looks normal! Temp is in the high 30’s on the porch and 42 down in town. We’re under a high wind warning for tomorrow and a high surf advisory. They’re talking wind tomorrow around 50mph and gust up to 90 on the headlands and 80 in the Coast Range. …snow in the mountains…. Somehow I don’t think we’re going to Eugene tomorrow. That’s ok. We’ve got plenty to do here.

I finished up with the crystals from the class on Sunday during the day, yesterday, but I’m not sure they’re all up on the board, yet. Tempus spent quite a while making sure the last holiday stuff is down and putting up or re-setting all the dream-catchers, medicine shields, pennants and banners. He also cut all the new headers for that stuff that got bagged. He’s still got to get the snowflake lights down and then re-set a lot of the lights that got messed up as stuff came down and the ones that blew in the case during the fall.

I put a set of semi-precious stone hearts on the hanger that we have for the buttons. I put the last of the stock of skulls up there, earlier. That makes them a little easier to find. We have more stock of the resins we were out of (myrrh, frankincense, dragon’s blood) that will go on the board on Thursday.

I re-set the divination cabinet. It’s sorted out, at least, although we still haven’t lighted it. That’s going to be interesting. I guess we’re running cord along the ceiling again. We do have several re-purposed decks (and I did the cleansing/clearing…) and several new ones.

A few other fun things that I hadn’t mentioned before: a Feng Shui kit (just one) for breaking up stale energy, 3 copper Kuan Yin plaques, a turquoise colored dream catcher mobile with feathers (pretty trippy to watch!) and a box of slender kyanite wands that I’m going to keep behind the counter and sell for $1 each. They’re hard to package to keep ‘em from breaking…. We also have a couple of nice carriage lanterns in the front window, new brooms and a really cool, fancy-framed water barometer.

We finished the Through the Wormhole DVD’s yesterday evening over our chef salads for dinner. There’s a lot of interesting information in those. Some of it, I’m going to have to look up because these were made in 2009-10 and a few things have changed, since. I’m not fond of the format. Made-for-TV stuff annoys the heck out of me with all the repetition before and after commercial breaks. …and there *are* flaws in what they present! Overall, it’s worth watching, especially as a starting point for some of the odder parts of modern physics.

No, the shop website and newsletter are *not* “going black” tomorrow as a SOPA protest, unlike Wikipedia and Reddit and many others. There are too many folks who depend on the information we have to let them down for a day. However, I would suggest that you look up SOPA and some of the other online censorship issues to salve my conscience about that….

I still haven’t gotten to the pictures this morning. I have a ritual to edit and then I’m going to get onto those. They’re most of the way there. If you’re on Facebook the links will show up on the wall and probably on the fan page, the way I share the newsletter over there during the day. I have some calendar stuff to work on and to get the tide charts entered, so I’ll be busy.

Stay dry. Stay warm. Stay in or make plans to warm yourself quickly. Weather’s going to be interesting over the next couple of days. …and *stay* *alert* if you’re out in snow, on the road, or on the beaches. There’ve already been tangles of trucks on I-5, at least one nasty accident on 101 yesterday, too many hypothermia cases, and a couple of people scared out of their wits on one of the jetties…. Not that they had many wits to start with if they were out there…. 

The shop is closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Well, that’s a surprise! Before I went to bed last night I realized that there was snow, but this morning, things are white!

We had fun with the classes yesterday. There were two people from Angell Job Corps, one of whom had taken the 101 class, so we started in treating it as a discussion of concepts rather than the more formal class. We also sidetracked onto some information about the differences between ornamental herbs and the wild varieties. Tempus had gone back up to the house to get some chores done and he brought an awesome chicken salad down at lunchtime. During that lunch break I started getting things ready for a class on Crystals, but I wasn’t done at 1pm, so Tempus went over some concepts from physics that we use in the classes. The Crystals class happened at 2pm. We went over kyanite, then did a bit of a game, matching crystals to the headers that I been working on. At 3pm we went on into playing with some resins, since I needed some more on the board. It was mostly playing since I ended up with a reading that came in just after we decided which ones needed to be bagged. I’m thinking that they went back to the Center at about 5pm. I spent a little while longer on the pictures from Friday and setting up some more crystals.

We closed up and came home, realizing that the precipitation was coming down “chunky” and then watched it turn to snow as we drove up the hill. It wasn’t sticking, but I was getting worried about driving this morning. We made supper (blue suede burgers with fried potatoes and onions and corn, then watched the episode, “What are we made of?” on the Through the Wormhole DVD and then I went to bed. Tempus must have been puttering in the kitchen because he pulled a bread recipe out of the bread maker, ready for rising in the pan, just after we got up.

…I’m an ice cube, but that was *fun*! I got my camera out and took some pictures of the show/ice outside at sunrise. I think I got at least one good one of the ice on the radishes. It’s pretty out there, but cold.

There’s a hummingbird that was hovering just beyond the porch just long enough to see his red head as he turned it side to side. He keeps swooping in on the hummingbird feeder. Ah, finally landed. He’s having breakfast and I think I’m going to go look for some more coffee.

The sun is pouring into the window. It’s far enough north now, that the light is missing the altar. It’s all on the box stack to the left of it. I’ve been watching hummingbirds & sparrows & juncos on the feeders, but for the last few minutes there were some crows going after leftovers. I’ve got the camera set up to see if I can get a hummingbird pic. The porch thermometer is reading well below 30F although the one in town is reading 36F.

The gargoyles have ended up in the window display where the short Yule tree was and we’re putting some lights around them. I don’t know if I mentioned that we moved the Divination display case over to the prints/cards displays or not, but we did. Tempus still has to get it plugged in though, and I need to get the new decks to the inside of it. He got the table set up on Saturday in that corner and it has some of the stuff that still needs to be hung up all over it, but some of the games will go out there when it’s cleared of the things in progress. The newest chalice/glass stock is all out in the south window display.

There are a couple more things that I missed talking about in the newsletter from the Chamber of Commerce meeting. One is the Yoga classes at Rumi. They’re now running classes at 10am Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10am, Wednesday at 5:45, Thursday at 6:30 and Sunday at 4pm.

The other is a series of Workshops, Planning sessions and Classes that comprise the Oregon Rural Tourism Studio Program, that are running from February to May this year. To register go to http://Industry.traveloregon.com/RTS For more info contact Andrea Scharf at (541)547-3092 or andrea@goyachats.com I’m putting the dates/topics into the calendar below because we’re going to be attending some of these interesting programs and the descriptions will be below the newsletter for a few days, here.

Today is just all work. The Readings sign will be out. We’re still doing inventory. There’s new stock to hang up and I have to spend a little while on pictures this morning.

I’ve been listening to the week’s program on Hearts of Space. It’s called Ice Castles. This is some wonderful ambient music!

The shop opens at 11am today. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 at 10am. Miscellaneous Class (depends on who shows up!) at 1pm. Herbs at 3pm.

I started with pictures in the morning, yesterday, but had to stop with other things going on. Maybe they’ll go up today. Herbs ended up in cataloguing what we’ve got that needs to get packed since when I was working on the carpet powder. I found several duplicates and some unexpected empty or mislabeled herb bags. Sewing…well, it was just me, so I kept on working.

Tempus and I had intended to keep going on inventory in between workshops and customers but things went sideways. We are changing out the winter holiday stuff for Imbolc products and that meant we had to find the pennant for outside, which led to untangling several other banners, re-rolling and mending a couple. While that was going on we started talking about the weather and realized we were short on supplies so Tempus started in on a shopping list.

Since he was doing that I started back in on unpacking the stuff from the close-out. I had two boxes finished at that point: candles and books. I went on with the rest of the candle stuff first, although there are a couple of things that have wax drips on them and have to be cleaned. Next I got into the incense and got that taken care of. Along with new burners we have a whole basket of clearance incense that’s going for 50 cents or $1 a packet…and I’ll give you 3 for the price of 2, even at the clearance price! It’s good incense, just not the kind that I like to carry at the shop, partly because it has more fragrance oil in it than my lungs are going to be happy with, so it’s closed up in ziplocs and priced to roll out the door!

Next I found the box with the gargoyles. They’re all small statues that can be held in two hands at the largest, and all under $10! There’s one set of 3 that feel like garden guardians to me, another set of 3 that are the classic Notre Dame shapes and a bunch of very lightwieght ones with cute expressions… I think a couple of them were trying for “ferocious” and missed!

There was another box with candleholders that had some fun ones, all metal (4 of ‘em!) and another in a similar wire shape style that’s a crescent moon. There were a bunch of singletons and also 2 types of oil heaters, the kind that hold a candle inside to release the fragrance of the oil in a dish at the top. There is a pair of red taper holders and another pair of cobalt blue with a 3rd one of the same style. That doesn’t count the clear glass ones that I unpacked the other day, some of which are in large numbers of matching styles. I think there are 13 of one, 6 of another, 11 or 12 of a 3rd. It adds up to a *lot* of glass on that table!

The 7th box was all statues: a large Diana of the Hunt, a small Hannuman, an elephant, a tiny brass and a slightly larger copper mini-bucket, a temple that would make an excellent candle-holder and a bunch more, plus a cinnabar vase that has to be seen rather than described. There’s a pirate & lady and a unicorn & fairy, too!

The 8th box was mostly some gourds done as vases or rattles and one bottle. There are also small “medicine shields” and some dream catchers, along with potpourri in pretty lace-edged frames and a bunch more dried herbs & flowers that I have to weigh and process, still.

The last box was all glasses and goblets, some in glass, some in stone and a couple in pottery.

Scattered through all the stock that we brought back were several small boxes in wood, stone or ceramic, including a really cute black cat box. There were other containers that would make good incense burners or cauldrons in ceramic and metal. …and that doesn’t even get into the jewelry! Tempus also hung up a number of pieces in the window: a couple of wind-chimes, and a nice metal and glass dragon and so on.

By the time I got that far, Tempus was back from Newport and it was well after closing time, so we part-way tidied up and came on home.

Ok, other things that I didn’t get to in earlier newsletters. They mentioned at the Chamber of Commerce meeting that the improvements in the park behind the house include: better grading, gravelling muddy spots, new cuts that are wide enough for several people to walk and a couple of bridges that will make the park more accessible. Robinson Park (down near the Port Docks) is also due to get the ADA access finished, so people in wheelchairs will actually be able to get down onto the beach without bogging down in the sand.

Today’s classes are really not planned through. We’ve had just one student this last week and he hasn’t called to say he’ll be here today, although I know he was planning on it. Because of that, everything is tentative. The weather doesn’t help, either. All evening and during the night we’ve been hearing the ticking of ice/sleet hitting windows and skylights. What that will be by this afternoon we don’t know because they’re talking snow, even accumulation over tomorrow. We’ll see….

…and now, with it light outside, it’s 36F. The sun was even out for about 5 minutes turning everything golden and whatever had accumulated on the porch roof suddenly poured off. There’s nothing on the ground although the roof next door looks a little odd. It’s just raining steadily now, very lightly, but continuously.

The shop opens at 9am today because of classes. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Herbs Workshop at 11am. Sewing Workshop at 3pm.

It’s very dim out and quite windy. We’ve got some gusts listed at 25mph, but mostly the wind is running around 15mph. It’s forecast to go down to 32F tonight and then stay in the 34F range for a couple of days, starting this evening! Brrrr…….. I’m glad I found my gloves….

We had so much fun yesterday! The trip was to the Airlie Winery between Wren and Kings Valley. Tempus and I left the house and drove down along the seawall. We usually take the back way to the shop. There were a couple of seals playing in the water and lot of ducks and gulls. Tempus was driving as I kept twisting around to watch the scenery and the wildlife. I commented at one point that I miss that. It’s the biggest disadvantage of having the shop closer to home. If I could consistently ride my trike…well….

We parked by Marius and Rowan’s place and all piled into Marius’ car, then headed out route 20. Rowan and I both have problems with being in the backseat on those winding roads, so I asked if we could stop at Rainforest Mushroom Company in Eddyville so that we could get our complexions back to human from pea soup green! They had a lot of nice-looking fresh mushrooms, but I bought a bag of dried chanterelles, since we’ve been talking about a couple of dishes that use those and I don’t really have time to cook until Tuesday. Rowan pushed my button on blackwork (double-running stitch embroidery) and I talked about that all the way to Kings Valley! Hmm… can we say “obsessed”? But we’re talking about getting some coffee table books done on various topics and that one’s mine.

The Airlie winery is off the main highway on a rural road that has all the usual charms of wild plants, trees and the occasional barn in the process of disassembling itself. The vines are beautiful, even in the state of being pruned back. There are a couple of frost fans for the possible late spring frosts that we weren’t sure if they were that or power generation until we asked. There’s a lovely pavilion at the entrance by the pond which had a skin of ice. Cat and Larry were waiting for us by the entrance and a couple of beautiful Chesapeake Bay retrievers, Rocky and Riley, were the welcoming committee.

There’s a little covered patio where you can sit when it’s warm enough, but we went inside and Cat introduced us to Mary, the owner of the winery, who told us a lot about the winery, the vines, how the wines are made and processed and the characteristics, not only of the wines, but the vines and grapes that produce them. Since most of us had not done a wine tasting before she also told us how to figure out what we like from the tastes and how the pros do it. I fell in love with a late-harvest 2008 gewertstramminer (danged if I know if I spelled that right!) wine that is made by freezing the grapes after they’re picked to get rid of a lot of the water. It’s a sweet wine and my dear Tempus bought a bottle that we’re going to have for my birthday. They also have a good reisling and a pinot gris that I’m pretty fond of, although I didn’t like the chardonnay. It’s the only one that I didn’t finish. They also had a 2005 port that they’re just starting to sell that was very nice.

Larry bought us an awesome picnic of cheeses, bread, crackers (Fritos do *not* go well with chardonnay!  ) fruit and some of his awesome fresh sea food and tuna spreads. We chatted and nibbled and sipped until some of us were stuffed and some just “comfortably upholstered”.

When we packed up all of the leftovers, we scattered outside to look at the lovely grounds. I got a lot of pictures of the firepit, the vines, the herb garden (a 6 inch long sage leaf!?!) and the mistletoe on the oak trees. I took some pictures of the pond and the ice, too, but I don’t know if they worked. I’ll be posting pictures on Facebook later and I’ll put up a link to the photo album as soon as I have.

Just after we left the winery we stopped at a little rural church that’s for rent. I don’t remember just why, now, mostly because I was getting really dozy at the point and slept all the way home. I don’t really remember getting out of Marius’ car and into ours, even! We hung out at the shop for a while, then decided that none of us had the oomph to do anything about hats, so we got a take ‘n bake pizza from Grand Central and took it up to the house, settling in to pizza and talk and the rest of the wine.

…and then I went to bed and slept straight through and I’m not even all the way awake *now*!

I forgot the mention the trail improvements happening in the park behind the house…I’ll save that for tomorrow.

Herbs Workshop will be on carpet powders and various of the banishing ingredients. Sewing is a “bring your project” workshop.

The shop opens at 10am today so we can get things cleaned up before the workshop! We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

The shop s closed today for the Circle Play Day! Happy Friday the 13th!

The sky is an odd pale color…not blue, not yellow, not green….just pale. …There are small clouds low on the horizon…probably on the other side of the mountains, actually, that are bright pink, now….

We started in yesterday on the new stock, first thing, Tempus unloading the car, but I had to head out to the Chamber meeting before getting very far. The meeting was at the Greenside Restaurant, which is right on the Crestview Golf Course (hence the name). They did a nice fish and chips lunch. Waldport’s Mayor was the scheduled speaker, our version of a State of the City address. You know our Centennial was this past year? Susan talked about the various events during the past year and what we’ve got planned for this one. The hiking trail that connects with the park behind the house is almost done, the high school move is well underway (scheduled to finish in 2014), the old high school building is going to green space, the public restrooms at the south end of town have the ok from ODOT finally and it looks like Angell Job Corps has that job is the biggest news. It’s pretty darned amazing how much funding Waldport has managed to get this past year. I won the business card drawing this month and it was a hat from the Golf Course…so Tempus has a new hat… 

The red streaks went white and now the sunlight is crawling in the study window. The sky is blue, but very pale.

I managed to finish two boxes after I got back from the meeting, getting them double-checked, marked and on the shelves. One was books and one mostly candleholders. After that Tempus and I started on inventory again. We did the incense and the herb wall and got home after 9:30.

When we got in the moon was up, but hanging out in clouds that distorted its already flattened shape even farther, but it soon climbed out of that and was very bright all night, still visible when I got up this morning.

It’s going to be nice to have a break today. We’re heading into the Valley to have a private wine-tasting and a picnic at a place familiar to a couple of members of the Circle. In the evening we’re planning on making hats…witch hats. We had so much fun playing with those at Samhain that everyone decided that we need ‘em!

The shop opens at 11am today. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday, except that on the Circle’s Playday, this Friday, 1/13, we will close so that we can actually play.

Love & Light,
Anja

Mars shines above the waning Moon before and during dawn Saturday morning.
In this coldest time of the year, the dim Little Dipper hangs straight down from Polaris after dinnertime as if (per Leslie Peltier) from a nail on the cold north wall of the sky.
Faint Neptune (magnitude 7.9) is 1.3° north (upper right) of Venus — which is 60,000 times brighter at magnitude –4.0.
By dawn, Mars and Saturn are high and awaiting your telescope. For a few mornings the waning Moon passes below them.

Hi, folks!

No 101 class, yet. We’re still waiting for people to call back.

It’s a little after 2am and I’m awake. I walked in last night and went, “thud”….

We rolled out of here, late. (Gee, what else is new? ) Because of that we didn’t stop to get pictures, but I have some lovely mental ones. As we were heading south along 101 I watched the ghost of the moon as it was setting into pink clouds over the ocean, finally vanishing just before we rounded Cape Perpetua. There were lovely vistas of the beaches in the distance, all dark brown of cliff and blue of sea, striped with low-angled golden sunshine on mist. There was a glimpse of ocean, shading into a horizon of pale cloud, that reflecting in the water, blurred the horizon into both sea and sky framed with deep green woods. Finally we rounded the corner at Florence and from there on we climbed into the hills and over the coast range, talking all the way.

We got into Veneta around 10:30 and spent most of a couple of hours working out details for KC’s Memorial with Mary and her mother. The date is set for 2/11….that’s a Saturday. We’re thinking about 1pm at the Grange Hall in Veneta, but that’s all very tentative, except for the date.

Tempus and I stopped for lunch at the Shari’s on 11th. He got a reuben, one of his favorites, but it was on panini bread and he kept grinning and referring to it as a “bikini sandwich”. I had an unusual, but tasty, salad made with candied pecans and blue cheese with a toasted sesame dressing, very oriental tasting, that was so good I kept dipping my sandwich into it.

We got to Metamorphosis a little early and from then until after dark we entered into the computer, checking prices all the way, packed and took to the car. Both Elan and Grace were there. We have several shelf units and about a dozen boxes along with twice that many odd-shaped bits. It’s a similar variety of stock to what we already have, but with some different choices on the specifics. Late in the afternoon I got to realizing that we had about double what I originally figured, so we’re going to be going back next Wednesday to pick up the rest.

The Bensons stopped by to talk about consignment of one of his books, The Polyamory Handbook. We also discussed having both of them come to do talks at a psychic fair or to lead a discussion at Pan-Pagan.

We only stopped for a snack on the way home, driving under a beautifully clear sky full of stars. Venus we still high as we left the Eugene area, but fell below the trees as we went through the mountains. Jupiter was swinging high overhead and the Big Dipper helped keep me oriented as the round wound about. After the turn at Mapleton where 126 follows the Siuslaw I watched the lights on the river, not just of houses, road lights and floods over parking lots, but in darker spots, stars reflecting.

We stopped in Florence to fill the gas tank and as we were pulling back onto 101 I could see that the eastern sky was lighter than it had been. There were lots of crab boat lights on the ocean, some closer in, some farther away. As the moon got closer and closer to rising the sky began to pale so that you could see the horizon line, but when it actually rose the shadows of the various headlands darkened the ocean, leaving the farther portions reflecting the lighter sky and the horizon vanished again. It was odd not to see Heceta Head light after passing the Sea Lion Caves. Even knowing that it’s down for maintenance I kept looking for it, feeling that something was badly wrong with things. The road winds back and forth along the coast, hiding and revealing the ocean, and I watched the sky getting paler and paler. Finally we rounded Cape Perpetua and could see the lights of Yachats and Waldport.

After 30 miles of trees, ocean and sky, Yachats was too bright, but after that I started seeing the lopsided moon through the trees to the east. Tempus and I kept joshing about how helium is so expensive that they didn’t have the moon filled all the way, so no wonder it was misshapen and late!

It was good to get home and to just crawl into bed and sleep. I think I’m going to go crawl back in, now. 

At 9am it’s bright sunshine and breeze and 40F although it’s supposed to go up to 55 or so. We’re supposed to have a couple of gorgeous days here.

Today, I have a Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon and then I’ll be back down at the shop unpacking and sorting. We’ll probably be there late, since tomorrow is the Circle Play Day and we need to get the car cleaned out and seats back in.

The shop opens at 11am today. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday, except that on the Circle’s Playday, this Friday, 1/13, we will close so that we can actually play.

Hi, folks!

No Herbs Outdoors today.

There’s a pretty deep minus tide today. Be careful!

It’s still pretty dark and there’s a rusty streak of cloud low in the southwest. I’m blinking sleepily at the computer, trying to get my eyes open.

Yesterday was an odd day. I ended up getting up so late and then I had to find all the Crossing the Bridge pieces since the old notebook has vanished and so has the original file to create the notebook. I’ve been dissatisfied with the Crossing the Bridge ritual that we’ve had as a standard for a long while since it *never* gets done the way it’s written, so I re-wrote it as it usually goes. I did manage to catch up on mail and such and set things up so we could roll out the door early this morning.

Long after dark I was sitting at the shop laptop that was set up on the desk in front of the window, as I usually do during our “weekend” when my eye snagged on a light in the trees to the northeast. I know that the trees are too thick to see any house lights so I was a little puzzled, but in a few minutes I realized that it was the Moon, rising in the same place that the Summer Solstice Sun does. I watched it off and on, finally losing track as it moved past the porch roof. During the night it was very bright and without the clouds them temperature dropped until at around 9pm it was 34F. It’s only 33F, now.

Today we’re heading for Eugene. We’re meeting with Mary Cedarwolf in the morning, setting up for the Memorial, (the reason that I’m finding and reworking files), then going to Metamorphosis and the World Tree. Elan is closing down her shop. She’s going to re-open as just a healing center, which is what she actually wanted to do in the first place, so she wants to get her stock placed somewhere and has display furniture and shelving to get rid of. That’s going to be a long day.

So Tempus just rattled out the door, heading down to the shop to take the seats out of the car so that we have space for our cargo. I’m packing up the laptop and water bottles and my camera and boxes. We’re going to be rolling down the coast in the early morning…gotta have the camera. Oh, especially with the moon setting at 9am. Ooh….

The shop is closed today. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday, except that on the Circle’s Playday, this Friday, 1/13, we will close so that we can actually play.

Love & Light,

Here we are well into January, and Vega, the "Summer Star," still shines brightly in the northwest right after dusk. Though it's getting pretty low. To Vega's upper left, the Northern Cross in Cygnus is swinging down to stand upright on the northwest horizon around 7 or 8 p.m. (as seen from mid-northern latitudes).

Hi, folks!

It’s 2:30pm (PM!!!!) and I’m *finally* up and awake. I tried to get up at the usual time, but I must have gone back to bed and dreamed that I had…then Tempus tried to get me to wake up at 10:30 and after falling asleep repeatedly at my desk and not getting anything written, I crawled back in. Now I’m awake, but moving slowly. I dunno if I’m hibernating or what, but I’ve been having awful problems with insomnia that have been getting worse since early in December. Last night I was tired enough to actually drop off at 1:30am….

The sunshine is brilliant and the flying sapphires and emeralds have been alternating at the feeders with the sparrows and juncos. …and then the sunshine goes dim because of clouds, but it’s still awfully bright for a January day. …and we’re supposed to have minimal rain this week. It sounds like Alaska got it all… a *14* *foot* snowfall? …and Nome still doesn’t have enough fuel to get through the winter. Sheesh! …and us dry enough that if it weren’t for those couple of days of rain I’d be watering the garden again. It’s dry about 3 inches down, already.

Yesterday started well. I got the newsletter out and then got myself together and we were at the shop *before* time! I did a bunch of printing, then started back into updates and pictures and getting random things back into stock and mended or re-headered or whatever…and the day just went on with that. We went home. We ate. Tempus went to his study. I read and then when he came in (fairly early!) we started talking about something and finally wound down around 1 so it took another ½ hour for me to get to sleep.

So today is starting late and I’m heavy-eyed, even yet, and sluggish-brained. I had something all planned out to write about today and it ain’t happnin’…. Maybe I can get it written tonight and have something for the newsletter tomorrow. We have to get the house chores done and then go to the shop to pull the seats out of the car and print some stuff that we need for tomorrow.

Yeah, tomorrow….Tomorrow we’re heading for Eugene. We’re meeting with Mary Cedarwolf in the morning, setting up for the Memorial, then going to Metamorphosis and the World Tree. Elan is closing down her shop. She’s going to re-open as just a healing center, which is what she actually wanted to do in the first place, so she wants to get her stock placed somewhere and has display furniture and shelving to get rid of. That’s going to be a long day.

Just found out that there’s going to be an agate festival in Yachats. It’s going to be January 1/21&22. More details will be coming.

The shop opens today at 11am. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday, except that on the Circle’s Playday, this Friday, 1/13, we will close so that we can actually play.

Love & Light,

Hi, folks!

The sunrise is beautiful this morning. It’s gone from deep red to rose, to gold, to brilliant sunlight. …and then the clouds rolled in. I was going to make some snarky comment about how clear it was for a 90% chance of precipitation day, but now, I don’t have to!

Tempus was in here laughing, when he brought my coffee in, over the little birds on the feeder getting aggressive with the Stellar Jay that usually drives them off.

We ended up with no formal classes yesterday. There was one person from Job Corps, so we discussed what he’d like to work on, and random questions while doing some sorting chores since I hadn’t managed to get the class table completely cleaned off…still haven’t…. The 2nd hour we pulled out the crystal books and set up the rock tumblers, with the small one on a polish round and the large one full of nephrite on a rough grit. Those pieces ought to be looking pretty good in two weeks! I’m out of rough grit, though. We spent a while looking up properties and learning which books have the hardness numbers, and why that’s important when setting up tumbler loads.

Tempus brought lunch down for us, then he, Ricky and DD took off to get lunch (their treat to Papa) at Grand Central Pizza. They had a cheeseburger pizza, which is an interesting idea; hamburger, onions, a couple of kinds of cheese and fresh lettuce and tomatoes on top. I got a bite of the leftovers although I was already full, since they wanted me to see if the sauce was too spicy for me. It wasn’t…and that’s a *tasty* pizza!

At the shop we were sorting agates. We’re almost through the 12 pounds of beach agates dropped off by a couple of friends. The student spent a while meditating while I was working on some bookwork and setting up some more things to do during the afternoon, then helped me with getting some pictures of stock (new ones of the pebbles up on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.13839521 74545.40192.1704231146&type=1&l=5d9038e01a ) After that we inventoried a couple of small sets of things, then I started editing and gave him the task of setting up small bags of some sodalite. Right then a person who needed some grief counseling came in and I was busy at that until just before it was time for him to leave. Tempus took him back to the Center while I went on with getting pictures online. I have a few more to go.

One of the best is of “Tempus bread”. He’s such a perfectionist that since he’s been making bread…. and he started back in the 90’s…. this is his first completely perfect loaf. …and delish! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.45415656 4147.239259.714224147&type=1&l=c8b3b8c147

The last part of the day I did some updates to the website, then we went home, ate, fell asleep during another episode on the DVD we’ve been working our way through and finally went to bed. The moon was really bright when we got home, actually making me flinch from the brightness of the reflection in the kitchen window as I walked up the steps into the house, and it just seemed to get brighter, making the skylights glow and the solar tube (a mini-skylight) bright enough to see despite regular lights on. Every time I woke during the night I would look out the window and, climbing back into bed, notice that the western window blind had more light on it.

We were awakened by a phone call this morning, just early enough to be startling, by our son in Alaska who had been up all night!

We have inventory to work on today, and more pictures and updates. I have a reading appointment and Tempus is going to be cutting up business cards and headers while I’m doing that.

The shop opens today at 11am. We’re now back to regular Winter Hours, 11am-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Moon is in Full, but Waning phase through 11:30am on Tuesday. Magicks: Waning Gibbous Moon - From three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full moon. Best time for draining the energy behind illness, habits or addictions. Magicks of this sort, started now, should be ended before the phase change to the New Moon

Sirius, the Dog Star, sparkles low in the east-southeast after dusk, far below Orion. Procyon, the Little Dog Star, shines in the east two or three fist-widths at arm's length to Sirius's left (not far right of the Moon tonight). If you live around latitude 30° north (Tijuana, New Orleans, Jacksonville), the two canine stars are at the same height above your horizon soon after they rise. If you're north of that latitude, Procyon will be higher. If you're south of there, Sirius will be the higher one.

Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 at 10am and Herb Workshop at 3pm!

Sunlight is pouring through the study window. How many times have I used those exact same words since it rained in October?

A crow just sat down on the porch railing and grabbed up several grapes. Then another one did the same, then a 3rd grabbed a stem with a grape on it and all flew off.

The moon was gorgeous last night and so was last night’s sunset. Really intense colors. At sunset the moon was already up, fairly high in the sky, a lopsided cheese wheel.

We have most of the holiday stock down, put away and counted! We’ve still got some decorations to deal with, but we’re almost there. Ricky and DD are here for a couple of days and they helped.

There are classes today, but I don’t know how many people there will be. We’ll be setting up classes once we know who will be there.

The shop opens today at 11am, although I will be there at 9am or a touch later (since it’s 8:55! Yikes!). We’re now back to Winter Hours, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Hi, folks!

Herb Workshop at 11am and Sewing Workshop at 3pm.

The sun tried to come out a little after it came over the mountains, but there’s too much cloud/haze. It’s warmer than yesterday morning. I guess it stayed cloudy during the night, but when I went to bed there was moonlight all over.

Tempus had a fairly busy day at the shop, yesterday. I’ll be at the shop today for the workshops.

The shop opens today at 11am. We’re now back to Winter Hours, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,

Hi, folks!

High surf advisory through tomorrow morning.

I was thinking when I got up that it was going to be very cloudy out, but it looks much more like fog. It’s almost 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. I know I was seeing moonlight during the night on the window shade. There’s most of two inches in the rain gauge. They’re talking about just showers today.

Just as I posted yesterday the sunlight got clear for a minute and poured through the study window, making all the glass, crystals, oils and candleholders on my altar glow. The rest of the day was blowing rain and nasty-looking so nothing happened outside.

Nothing much happened inside either, with the exception of the work that I’ve been doing on the ornament collections.

…and sunrise is definitely to the left of the Solstice point!

Tempus and I will be at the shop today. We’re going on with the inventory, but also starting to take down the holiday stuff.

The shop re-opens today at 11am. We’re now back to Winter Hours, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,

Hi, folks!

No Herbs Outdoors today.

It’s still fairly dark, but there’s a rusty streak of cloud near the horizon. The bamboo chime is clonking. …Tempus just got the feeder out. …The rusty streak is now peach-colored. …Juncos and sparrows on the feeder. I stood at the other desk and watched a couple that were closer as they watched me. It’s pretty windy. The computer is saying gusts up to 25 or so, but it’s already over 50F on the porch thermometer.

After I got the newsletter out yesterday I started back in on some of the inventorying of stuff. Another ornament chest is done and I have one drawer left on yet another. Stray ornaments that have been accumulating in my study are gradually vanishing. The shop inventory file is ready to go for tomorrow and the for sale ornament file is sorted so that I can find everything and count as we put ‘em away.

Tempus refilled the feeders and then got all his tools together and went up on the roof next door. There are a lot of shingles that looked…wrong. It turns out that the stapled-down shingles weren’t holding well in spots, so he got out the glue and went over the whole roof. I guess it’s tar, not glue, but….

I did get outside yesterday. It was actually fairly warm, just enough for a hoodie. I spent almost the entire time weeding, harvesting a few bits, but mostly pulling up roots of grass and horsetail. I harvested a few radishes as I was cleaning up that space…all the small ones that are between those that I want to leave to grow a bit larger. Next I worked my way around the chamomile, getting the grass roots out from between the plants and cultivating a bit around it, so there’s more space for it to spread out to, harvesting the pieces that broke off. I still reek of chamomile, even after washing well. I tried to de-grass the sage plant. That’s turning in to a strange bonsai-looking thing. I think I’m going to have to put down some paper mulch around it because I couldn’t get the grass out, entirely. After that I turned around and got the grass out of the hebe and lavender that are right on the retaining wall. I should have worked on the rosemary, but my back started to complain, so I got up to stretch. I looked at the pale moon ½-way up the blue sky a while, then watched Tempus as he worked, then turned around the watch the sun over the house roof. There was a 22 degree halo and the beginnings of a circumzenithal arc at the top. I went around to the Sweet William, then on to the ornamental yarrow, finding a lot of volunteer cinquefoil. I’m going to have to move the stakes because the plants have spread out, so. I was going to dig up the garlic and replant because the grass in that area is just too thick, but I was running out of light and energy, so I collected up my tools and went inside. Tempus got the greenhouse tent back up just as it got dark. It had collapsed in the last storm.

Here’s the sunlight. It’s strained by the thin cloud, but still there. There’s a hummingbird at that feeder.

Wine Workshop was just checking on the progress on the wines. Nothing needed to be done, so we talked over our dinner salad, then watched another episode of Through the Wormhole, this one about what happened before the Big Bang, then discussed that, then I got back online for a bit, doing some counseling, chatting with friends and making plans for the next week or so.

The Wicca 101 group on Facebook is a good place to connect with others that have been in the classes and to get questions answered. I’m so annoyed at being added to a million-and-one groups that I won’t add you unless you ask or I ask you and you say ok. Several people got added yesterday, that hadn’t actually known about the group.

Tempus is starting a bread loaf. I’m going to try to get outside to work on that garlic and Tempus is going to check our roof for loose shingles and then we’ll settle in to our various projects. I need to work in the living room and get some of that cleaned up. I need to finish that last drawer of this ornament chest and start the next and I have a feeling that in between actually cleaning in the living room I’m going to be getting CD’s into the file. I have some shortbread cookies to make and some ingredient containers to label and sort and some overflow utensils and dishes to pack up and put by.

There’s no Herbs Outdoors today. It’ll likely be raining by that time.

I’m watching a Stellar Jay on the feeder. The sunlight comes and goes and when the jays aren’t there, every port in the feeder has at least one sparrow or junco. There’s a hummingbird perched on that feeder glowing green in the sunlight. If the jays are flying sapphires, this one is an emerald.

The shop is closed through Wednesday. We’ll go back to Winter Hours as of Thursday, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Space Weather News for Jan. 3, 2012 - http://spaceweather.com
FIRST METEOR SHOWER OF 2012: The annual Quadrantid meteor shower peaks on Wednesday morning, Jan. 4th, when Earth passes through a narrow stream of debris from a comet thought to have broken apart some 500 years ago. The shower is expected to be strong (as many as 100 meteors per hour), but elusive, with a peak that lasts no longer than a couple of hours. The shower's radiant near Polaris favors observers in the northern hemisphere. Images, live audio from a meteor radar, and more information are available on today's edition of http://spaceweather.com.

Hi, folks!

Herbs Outdoors at 3pm… assuming that the weather stays decent. Wine workshop at 6pm.

It’s going on 11am. I’m only just at the computer. The sun is shining. It looks lovely, outside. I’m sitting inside and wanting to go back to sleep. It’s in the mid-50’s so working outside won’t be grim, once I’m actually awake. I’ve been restless when I’m sleepy and sleepy and cranky when I’m awake. Too much holidays?

We’re back over 10 hours of daylight. It’s hard to tell yet, but by the end of the week we’ll actually be able to tell that the light is returning. The hardest part of winter is yet to come, but the sun is coming back!

Yesterday was a steady slog, punctuated by naps. I just couldn’t stay awake and was cranky all day. Why Tempus puts up with me, I don’t know. He just kept on doing his part and I kept screwing up mine!

I spent quite a while filling in newsletter files. I have more to do, but the Magick section, which is the hardest, is now done through mid-February. I worked on the cookbooks for a while, then sorted some clothing, adding a few pieces to the stack that are for the yardsale. I picked up some thing from the living room to work on, then I started working in the study. I had a stack of CD’s that I needed to get into that list and to sort the shop ones from the ones at the house. I also have some more books that need to get done, now. I worked my way through putting books back on the shelves and then did some more ornaments, finally working on the cookbooks some more and never got into the kitchen.

I’m not sure what all Tempus did, but he was busy all day long, working on sorting and cleaning the kitchen stuff from what I could tell. We were the only ones here for Wine Workshop, so we didn’t do anything but take some pictures of the new set-up. I’ll try to get those online today.

Actually today is supposed to be the Wine Workshop day. I got mixed up…. But we’re going with Herbs Outdoors today as well. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to close in again. I’m hoping that I’ll actually get those recipes worked on in the kitchen today.

The shop is closed through Wednesday. We’ll go back to Winter Hours as of Thursday, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Diane Hsz posted in the Occupy Pagans group this morning…

I have a question...How do you use your spiritual path to process Occupy? How do your spiritual beliefs mesh with what seems to be politics? Do you support Occupy with spiritual works, physical actions, promoting the cause through social media?
I am just curious as to what is happening with other pagans.

So, I replied.

Out here on the Oregon Coast there's not a lot going on as a group movement. I have a "Part of the 99%" poster in the shop windows and I'm intending to put one on the door, so most of what's happening with me is talking to people who comment on the signs. Being that I have a witch shop, it's meshing well for me. I've put occasional stuff into the daily newsletter from the shop, which is almost all shop/class/pagan.

As to how beliefs mesh with politics.... who you are, what you believe, is either part of your path or you're a hypocrite. I hate hypocrisy. Since I don't want to hate myself... I'm Wiccan. Changing the world starting from within and working my way outward...and I've only gotten as far as my immediate community in a small town... is what I'm about.

Hi, folks!

Home Winemaking workshop at 6pm today.

I actually got up on time this morning. I ought to have. I think I slept all but six hours out of yesterday! What a way to start the New Year.

It’s still very dark outside. I’m not hearing any rain, but the wind has picked up. It moaned through the bathroom window and startled me. Took me a moment to figure out what it was. We’re getting gusts around 30mph….

I’m already getting sick of politics and we’ve still got most of a year of it ahead. …. I’m listening to the morning news on KLCC and it’s been 12 minutes of it already, and it’s only 18 past!

It’s just light enough outside the study window to see that the bamboo chime is swinging in the wind. …and it’s just barely light enough the see the hummingbird that is sipping from the dancing feeder. That’s almost funny!

Tempus and I spent a lot of yesterday resting up. We also did some planning, setting out which projects we want to finish at the shop and in the house during the slow months. He also was working on getting some of the larger and heavier fabrics run through the wash, things like the bath rugs. He went out to the old trailer for a bit, pulling stuff out, and came in to get me when the sunset created a marvelous pink sky. The pink flushed the whole southern sky, all the way to the south east. I stopped on the way back in to harvest some last rosebuds. I spent a while in the kitchen, sorting things out. We sat down to listen to one of the DVD’s that was a Yule gift while we ate supper and both fell asleep. I picked up and went back to bed, even though it was only 8:30!

We’re planning on staying indoors today. Looking out the window is reinforcing that. Blowing rain? Urk… I have a couple of recipes to try (cranberry/orange chicken!) and we’re going to be trying to clean up and sort out the kitchen.

I’m getting back into working on the cookbooks and a couple of the recipes…well, I think the instructions are way too incomplete. Colcannon is pretty easy, but making the fried “pancakes” from it take a little more instruction than “leftovers can be fried on butter.” …which is what the original version said.

I’m back-and-forthing on which medium would be best for the cookbooks. I think print-on-demand…and then look at the price…which I wouldn’t want to pay…then CD, but that’s harder…and a lower profit margin… so print local, but then I have the mailing costs… argh… I’ll get it worked out, but it’s annoying to not be able to make up my mind!

The shop is closed through Wednesday. We’ll be closed again for New Year’s Day through next Wednesday, but then go back to Winter Hours, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Daily Stuff 1-1-12 New Year's Day
Posted by: CoastalAnja, Saat: 05:11 PM GMT Tarih: 01 Ocak 2012 +0
Hi, folks!

I hope you have a much better 2012, than 2011!

Not fun news for New Year’s, but it looks like KC is really gone. Tempus’ comment says it all, “I feel cheated. I wanted to get to know him better. I *liked* him!” We spent all day yesterday waiting to find out, then the news came mid-evening….

It’s a new year, new problems, but always new hope!

There were no students yesterday for the workshops, so we spent the day yesterday working with customers and continuing with inventory. Late in the day we emptied the rock tumblers. The small one has all but two crystals ready for the final polish. The big tumbler has only two ready to go on to the next polish. Wow… that’s almost 4 weeks for that set of crystals.

Our New Year’s was pretty quiet. We had the “Ultimate Fireplace” video going, hot buttered rum, champagne at midnight and a lot of talking, not only about political gripes, but memories and hopes and goals for the New Year.

Today is going to be a slow day with a lot of talking and a lot of rest. We need it.

The shop is closed through Wednesday. We’ll be closed again for New Year’s Day through next Wednesday, but then go back to Winter Hours, 11am-5pm Thursday through Monday.

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
Waxing Crescent Moon sets at about 12:45. Magicks: Waxing Gibbous Moon - From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn.

Look upper right of the Moon after dinnertime for the Great Square of Pegasus balancing on one corner. It's a little larger than your fist at arm's length.
First-quarter Moon (exact at 1:15 a.m. on this date Eastern Standard Time [iow last night…]). Jupiter is the bright "star" shining left of the Moon early this evening.
