It was a chilly Sunday in Garden City. Overcast skies at sunrise gave way to mostly sunny conditions later on, but the high only reached 34, while the low was 22.


For tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 23.

On Monday, there is a very slight chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoon, but otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 40's.

Thanksgiving Day still looks pleasant, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60's.





For tonight, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk Area for the area around the Arkansas-Oklahoma border, dipping into Northeast Texas. Hail appears to be the primary threat. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 11:00 CST this evening for extreme portions of Southwest Arkansas, Southeast Oklahoma, and Northeast Texas.





A larger Slight Risk Area has been issued for Monday for the same areas as tonight, as well as Central Texas. Cities included are Little Rock, AR; Abilene, TX; Dallas, TX; Waco, TX; and Wichita Falls, TX.



Another Slight Risk Area covers the Lower Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, and the Western Gulf Coast on Tuesday. Cities in that outlook area include Birmingham, AL; Mobile, AL; Greenville, MS; Jackson, MS; Chattanooga, TN; Jackson, TN; Memphis, TN; Nashville, TN; Bowling Green, KY; Louisville, KY; Cincinnati, OH; Evansville, IN; Little Rock, AR; Alexandria, LA; New Orleans, LA; Shreveport, LA; Houston, TX; and Lufkin, TX.



Elsewhere, a Winter Storm Warning for the area around Admiralty Island in Alaska, where up to 10 inches of snow is expected, another warning is up for the Alaska Panhandle where up to 14 inches is possible. A Winter Storm Warning is also in effect for northern counties of Eastern Washington state, Idaho where up to 18 inches of snow are possible in the mountains and up to 10 inches in the valleys.

In the tropics, a low pressure system located about 700 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands has been given a 40% chance of development by the National Hurricane Center.




However, the main tropical story tonight is Tropical Storm Kenneth, located 510 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. It currently has sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving toward the west-northwest. The current central pressure is 1022 mb. Kenneth could become a hurricane by Tuesday, but poses no threat to land, as it is moving away from the Mexican coast.

Today was another nice fall day to cap a week of nice fall days. Another pleasant fall day, but we really need some rain. It doesn't look like it's happening anytime real soon though.Today the high was 54 and the low 20. Garden City Weather News returns after a brief hiatus. Today was a pleasant fall day in Garden City. Skies were sunny and winds were light as we reached a high of 60. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low of around 31. Tuesday will remain sunny although the winds will pick up, the high should be in the upper 50's. Expect a cold front to pass through the area sometime on Tuesday afternoon, which should lower temperatures for much of the rest of the week....

Today we had an event very similar to last week's snow event, although this time we got a little accumulation. It didn't last long, but it looked nice for a couple hours. I'm one of those rare people who likes winter weather. Things will clear out tonight, and we'll have a low of 26. For the moment, we have some freezing fog at about 10:20 pm as I type this.
