Precious Metal P51 Mustang

Nov. 23, 2007: Still stuffed from Thanksgiving dinners but got decorating to do today. It takes me over a week to get it done so I better get going and not spend too much time on the blogs today. I am off work until next Wednesday so that will help.

Nov 21, 2007: It is almost Thanksgiving and I wish you all a wonderful day tomorrow where ever you may be spending it!
So I cannot "skip" a Thanksgiving Blog LOL I didn't think I could.. so will change the header just for tomorrow then go back to the airplane blog. LOL

Nov. 20, 2007:

Wishing all of your a wonderful Thanksgiving Week and Holiday weekend coming up. Those that are traveling I hope you travel safely and arrive without mishap. And we all enjoy the Thanksgiving Holidays.

I will skip an official "Thanksgiving Blog" this year to put up some of the photographs I took last Sunday.
A friend of hubby's owns an Airport in Lake Placid, FL and has an annual Fly In every November. People who are in to planes fly in every year for the fellowship and the love of planes. Now I am not really "into" planes but for those of you who know about them; you will be impressed with some of these.

The WWII P51 Mustang fighter planes, are famous.. it is said they won WWII for us. A few of those plans are still around and around 150 are still in flying conditions. I've got 3 photos (if they all get approved) of a very famous one "Precious Metel".. I understand a movie has been made about this plane and it just won the Reno 2006.

If you google Precious Metal P51 Mustang you will get all sorts of information on this plane... including the owners and current info. Someone here doesn't think this plane is the original and I advised him it really is the real McCoy. We know the owners and trust me it is real.

Some of the other planes were interesting also. I didn't get any good pictures of the stunt flyings they were doing but did get a little variety of the ones there.

And of course I have one of 3 birds out on the boat dock on Lake Josephone. Had to add it to the collection.

Gamma - You're the busiest person on the blogs! You should know how difficult it is to get to the blogs sometimes, when you are just strapped with everything else in life! I bet a lot of folks can't multi-task as well as you can :-)))

Have you noticed how many are banned too? I just tried to visit an old regular and they are banned! What in the heck has happened on here?

oh well.

Karen, I hear you...I cannot believe how many are either banned or leaving this is crazy. And I am trying so hard to get a post on my friend's blogs today or tomorrow. I feel so bad it has been so long since I have done a lot of post.. I think Halloween I hit a lot of blogs... but not since. For weeks It seems I only hit a couple of friend's blogs.

weatherspirit, you are welcome. Hope you enjoyed your Birthday!!!

Huri, Love the Deer.. I've visited your sister's blog also... glad she is enjoying our community.

Ok, hope this one goes.. got some potatoes to peel and boil!

may bbl and may not.. will see how it goes.

Daughter, Ellen, and Rylee are coming within the hour.. Christian and Hubby are working late. We may feed Rylee early and let her rest or play or what ever.. and us 4 adults eat later.

having a mini Thanksgiving dinner tonight.. then the big one tomorrow at Son's house. I am bringing alot of stuff there also. They do the Fried Turkey instead of roasted...so I will bring a special marinated (sort of Asian tasting) Turkey breast, some dressing, pumpkin pies, Candied Yams, gravy, dressing.. .. cranberry sauce....and a few more items. but we will have plenty of food between her Mother and me. The kids won't go hungry!

Have both girls and new SonInLaw here tonite for our Tijuana Flats T-dinner! I do have pies for later. They go to their dads tomorrow, so it will be just me and my Buddy! Ahhh how tradition can change! We,too, will put up christmas deco tomorrow! I have more decoration than I have room for so it gets a bit overdone(if that is possible..LOL)

Have a great time!

You know, I've never seen a 6 bladed P51 before. Must have been quite the airshow. Looks like a bigger event than the one they do at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, MN.

Hiya Gams,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and family!

Gams, Thanks for that story and your fine images of the highly modified (Wow - inline counter-rotating props!!!) "Precious Metal" P 51... It stirred up memories of a local legendary aviation family here in Houma - the Flying Fornofs... Bill and son Corky... Bill had a gorgeous P 51D in the 60's, along with a pair of F8 Bearcats... all painted in same beautiful bronze / dark brown metallic accent striping style... They used to perform as father / son team... Corky also had some fame when he flew a microjet thru an open hanger (!) in the James Bond film "Octopussy", as Bond's stunt double... and is still active in aviation... Sadly, Bill died in a crash of his Bearcat in 1971 while they were performing (metal fatigue, wing ripped off)... and the P 51D was also unfortunately destroyed when crashed a year later after being sold to another owner, killing both occupants in GA... And yes, the P 51D was the greatest fighter aircraft ever made, my all time favorite! An excellent machine once the more powerful Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engine was installed... Gosh, there's nothing like the sound of those vintage piston engine planes swooping overhead...

This may not show directly hot-linked due to copyright, but here's a nice image of Bill Fornof's P 51D courtesy of MustangsMustangs.com and Dick Phillips' Warbird Images... That site has a lot of info / images on these great vintage aircraft and others...

Good morning everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Wow, I didn't expect so many posts this morning when I got in here. already got the marinated turkey brest in the oven and the ham in the oven for later today.

Still got to make the pumpkin pies and green bean cassrole for today and warm up the dressing and candied yams (and add marshmellow topping).

and I need to find time to do my 4 miles this morning...

And "remind" hubby to get my Christmas boxes down! YIPEE!!!

I loved reading all of your posts and want to answer each one of them but cannot right now.. got too much to do in too little time.

Thank you all again for the wonderful greetings!

Oh boy, Today I did something I haven't done in over 10 years. I ran a non-stop mile! (and did it in 10 mins)... been building up doing 1/2 mile laps during my walk/runs but finally did and entire mile.

Walked 1 mile, run 1 mile, walk 2 miles.

and when I got home, hubby was taking down my Christmas boxes and stacking them in the garage!!!

and during my walk to and from the park this morning you could smell the dinners cooking out on grills or aroma's coming from homes along the way. It "smells" like Thanksgiving! LOL

Blu, BT, MnTornado, Baja, Gary, Crab,Sandi, Fsh, .. Thanks for stopping by with your posts!

Goo, Oh yes, I will probably not get to start until Tomorrow but tomorrow I will be "decking my halls" LOL

Doc, Thanks for your posts and interest. Wow, you have a history of flyers in your area. Nice information for this blog.

I've got to admit, I know NOTHING about planes and someone had mailed me about that plane not being the real plane or something like that I took it he was calling it a fake.. eventually he said it was "modified" oK.. then I understood... they have to be modified to fly today in these races and stuff but the basic plane is the original. I've just never really been into cars or planes or trains, etc.
But a lot of folks here really are.. these planes generated a lot of intrest by mail or posts... So happy when I do an interesting blog from time to time! LOL Been missing you so happy you stopped by!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Oh my goodness, everyone is so full of food. But everything tasted great. Between my DIL's (Pam) mother and me, we had so much food. And Pam made some dishes and Son did the Turkey in the deep fryer outside. We had a buffet that was so full.

They did a very nice evening and the weather was perfect. It was a little warm today... got into mid 80's..... actually this afternoon between 1:15 - 2pm, I was able to sit out by the pool in the sun for about 45 mins. and I got into the pool a few times to cool off. but I tell you it was COLD!!! Didn't have the hot tub or wine to cut the effect of the cold water this time LOL!

Now we are home, Hubby has work tomorrow and I've got decorating to do.

I did talk to family and that cold front has moved thru most of the South now.

Everyone thank you for your posts!

Denver Mark, that is great 3" of snow.. I told several people that "my blogging friend from Denver said he got 3" of snow yesterday" LOL \
Some of my family members are finally getting use to "my blogger friends" LOL

bills Thank you... I've been giving away outside lights to the kids over the past few years trying to work down some of my boxes of decorations. I think I still have enough to do what I need to decorate. We no longer get on 20 ft ladders to do the roof.. those peaks are just to dangerous for hubby and I to get done and we hate to ask our son because he has his own house to decorate.

Pat, Congratulations on your Daughter's confirmation. I know how special that is for you and your family. That is wonderful!

BD, Karen, CycloneBuster, & Bug, thank you so much for your posts. Yes we had lots of food!

Sounds like you had a nice day. Do you head back to work tomorrow?

I decided to go in, having just been off a week last week. And I have so much backlog, it ain't funny!

I didn't worry about it while I was gone but, boy, did I cringe when I sat down Monday morning and saw how bad it looked!

Gamma.. we used to have a good size black olive tree that we used to put probably 5,000 lights on. Lights all around the canopy and trunk. It was so beautiful when decorated. We probably had 10-11,000 lights on the house, tree, roof, bushes etc. We still decorate just not that extent anymore.

The tree is gone, it was a messy tree.

Yes I doubt I am on here much tomorrow.

Bug, I just left your blog and went back and got totally caught up..then left a couple of posts..

bills, I know.. I use to wrap my Royal Poinceina tree in the front yard in lights but the thing is just too darn large now and It is not only a very hard thing to do it is dangerous LOL... yes, I have scaled back big time over even 5 years ago...

Lol Gamma..I put on the Christmas station on the radio from now till new years!! Got the tree up(but will wait till hubby gets back from NY Sunday to put all the ornaments on.).Have 5 boxes emptied and spread out on the dining room table..The little one got into the box of Christmas stuffed plush toys(Santas and snowmen..bears and the like) and now they are all over the living room floor.

Just taking a tea break..then back at it. We are like two peas in a pod..My friends all think I am nuts..but the kids love it..and so do I. The house is so cozy and festive when I am done..I have more boxes in the garage to get out as well..I did find a few broken items..oh well, gonna have to do some shopping this weekend.

I saw some great ornaments too. I do a country tree with all wooden ornaments..some antique..but the craft stores have some awesome ones..and they are priced really well, so I will have to add to my collection.

I put a real 5 foot tree up in a week or two, the kids get to do that one with all the stuff they ahve made throughout the years..it's like a trip down memory lane for us all every year. They string the popcorn and the lights and do the whole thing themselves.(I do have to rearrange a bit as the 4 yearold likes to put everything on one branch! LOL)

Then when I take it all down, the house looks bigger somehow..LOL
I have the Yankee candles burning(Mistletoe) and it smells like Christmas! I am in my glory right now...

:)
Have fun..I know I will!

Gamma-our whole neighborhood used to go all out. The joke was that our street looked like an airport landing strip as it was so lit up. Every house decorated to the hilt. People came from all over the area to take pictures. But some of the people have moved and the new ones are slackers. lol Back then, we were in competition with each other, who could be the best. I miss that, but times change.

LOL!!! Good morning everyone.... Now that Thanksgiving is done.. make Way for Christmas!

LOL Goo; you are on the ball woman. Reminds me of when I was younger (like you now) and did so much decorating. I could do it all by myself.. and it takes a good 2 weekends and a week to get it done. Going at it today; starting this morning.

bills, my neighborhood use to be the same way.. I will say about 12-20 years ago when our kids were younger and the neighbors had not yet started moving on and new neighbors coming in. EVERY house on my block had something. Even our Jewish neighbors would hang blue and white lights outside. A few neighbors like the Policeman down the street who had 2 little boys, would really go all out.. I mean his should have been on TV. You could see my lighted Palm trees and Royal Ponciana all the way down at the end of the street when your turned the corner. I had lights all the way around my roof; as many lights and decorations in back as front yard..even did the one side yard we use alot.
It was crazy. Then some neighbors moved.. the kids grew up... people just got busier and older and tired out quicker... plus I always hated myself the first week of Jan when it was time to take it all down again.

I don't go that nuts anymore..over past 5 years I did cut down a lot..but going to pick it up a little more this year I think.

Rob, clady, Thanks for stopping by.. are you stuff yet?? LOL
Tornado... yes, sort of figured out your passion by your name. and your area gets plenty of tornadoes to watch. Stay safe!!

Ok, I hope NOT to be on the blogs alot today. I really want to sort thru some stuff and see how much headway I can make.

Everyone enjoy your Friday!

Just got back from 3 miles (didn't have time to do 4 today; too much to get done)

and I only ran 1/2 mile out of the 3 but I had to do something but didn't want to push it after my run/walks Wed and Thur.

and had to get the plumber in here this morning to do a couple of things... Rylee dropped her toothbrush down the bathroom sink... I know we should have a stopper in it but that is a different story.... we couldn't get it out...etc...

now got to pay some bills then I HOPE to finally get into my boxes LOL

Hi, Gams!

LOVE the pics of the planes. My mom was a riveter during WWII, and worked on some of these... she can still "talk through" the precise routine that she and her partner used. When my cousin outside KC was building a hanger for his Cessna and was doing some riveting, she wanted to help! I forgot to show her the pics yesterday when she came down for Thanksgiving dinner, but we'll look at them tonight.

Have a fun day! I'm getting up the energy to make a run to the storage unit to dig our boxes out - still a little windy and cold, but we have serious rain forecast for the weekend, so I'd better get m'self in gear!

Remember: you can ALWAYS use grandkids as an excuse for about anything excessive and fun when it comes to holidays!

Shore,

Thanks for stopping by.. That is great! I'll bet your Mother would be intersted in some of these planes.

Bring her by....and you know if I open up a new thread you can go thru Archives and pull this one up again.

Enjoy!

I have been a "weather geek" all of my life and living in the tropics since '79 has just made it more interesting. Great site for info and friends.
